playstation
Xbox 360 workers attempt mass suicide in China - Report Foxconn--one of the world's largest contract manufacturers of electronic components and products for companies like Apple, Dell, HP, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft--has once again come under fire over poor working conditions at one of its Chinese factories. According to a WantChina Times report, around 300 employees at the Foxconn Technology Park in Wuhan, China, (reportedly working on the Xbox 360 manufacturing line) threatened a mass suicide from the building's roof last week after Foxconn refused to pay out compensation packages it had previously promised. A group of Chinese workers on the Xbox 360 manufacturing line have threatened mass suicide over pay disputes. Citing Chinese anti-government website China Jasmine Revolution, WantChina Times reports that the Foxconn employees first asked for a raise, which was refused, before being told they had a choice between continuing work at the current pay rate or quitting their positions and receiving a compensation package. According to the report, Foxconn terminated the promised agreement when most of the employees chose the compensation package. The workers climbed onto the building's roof and threatened to jump in protest, but were reportedly dissuaded from the suicide attempt by the mayor of Wuhan. Microsoft has since issued the following statement to media in response to the reports: "Microsoft takes working conditions in the factories that manufacture its products very seriously, and we are currently investigating this issue." "We have a stringent Vendor Code of Conduct that spells out our expectations, and we monitor working conditions closely on an ongoing basis and address issues as they emerge. Microsoft is committed to the fair treatment and safety of workers employed by our vendors, and to ensuring conformance with Microsoft policy." Foxconn made international headlines in 2010 after 18 employees attempted suicide, and 14 died in protest over poor working conditions and low wages throughout Foxconn's factories in China. http://asia.gamespot.com/news/xbox-360-workers-attempt-mass-suicide-in-china-report-6348437 feels sad to see what this world has come too.....to think even little things in life like gaming console we cannot enjoy without someone suffering for us....sad that these companies can go on to post 9 million console sold, billions profit but not try to solve meager demands of people actually resposnsible of making possible to ship millions of console world wide during holiday season.. my uncle was telling me that in china ...these workers literally work like machines....they are not even allowed to talk to each other at work (socialize) beside that overtime ,as food they get chow in that watery gravy kinda thing....and salary is minimal also....whereas in germany people work for about 4 and half days in a week ...and in many european countries he was saying generally people work about 8 hrs....despite working so less and still they live a better life than us asians... Zeehunter
It's Foxconn's fault not that of Microsoft . . In case of Apple , workers died but here workers are still alive No one will ever blame Apple but when it comes to MS , MS teh evil

Irredeemable
Laughing on a grammatical mistake Such 3rd grade sense of humour u have OT: Laughing at a grammatical mistake OT : So many peoples are dided and suicided in ms factori is not ms fault! On topic: Yes, the working conditions are pretty horrific in china. We who complain about our jobs day in and day out (including me) should look at what privilaged lives we are leading. I've heard horrific tales from a cousin brother who works in a car spare part manufacturing company, had been to their facility in China and north korea.. Here, the workers are allowed a 45 minute break for lunch and another 15 minutes in the evening for coffee on an 8 hour shift. There they are allowed a 10 minute break for lunch, and nothing else at all! To top that, they work for 13 hours straight as part of their shifts! And worst of all, companies can do what they want with workers because worker unions tend to get quashed a lot. Skilled labor is so cheap and there are so many people willing to work that they can fire people left and right and still have a profitable business. They set the expectations high themselves. yeah, they have really cheap labor, and you really can employ 3 people in a single employees cost here. If you have 200 employees to build a single wall, itll get done in no time..
