More pixel counting: Haze runs at 576p

It appears that many games this generation aren't meeting the 1080p HD standard that Sony set on PS3. Heck, many games aren't meeting the standard 720p HD resolution, either. For example, Grand Theft Auto IV runs at 640p on PS3. While these kind of shortcomings don't impact the overall visual fidelity, many gamers are still up in arms about these missing pixels.

Haze is the next game to fall under the careful watch of videophiles. The recently released demo, when scrutinized, is shown to be running at 576p. Free Radical's Derek Littlewood confirmed to Ripten that the final game also runs in a lower resolution. "That's where we ended up with for Haze ... but I don't understand why people care whether there's 20 pixels, 50 pixels, or 100 pixels more."

Other games, like Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 on Xbox 360, have used lower resolutions to improve overall visual effects. It should be up to every gamer to decide, with their own eyes, whether or not the lowered resolution has created a diminished visual experience for Haze.

GS review: 6/10

Giant bomb: 2/5

Not looking too good for haze at the moment.. I had a feeling it was going to be an average shooter...but not a 4 or a 6... Whats suprising is that some reviews have called the graphics below par...from the screenies ands vids I've seen the game looked fine....(??)

Really ?

You gotta get one thing straight. No game can actually ever hope to be a Halo killer, unless its another Halo game. With the kind of marketing muscle behind the release of every game in the franchise so far, its highly unlikely that any other FPS will truly be able to overcome the mind share that Master Chief has managed to garner among the gaming population. Like it or not, Halo 3 is the fastest selling console exclusive evah. As much as Sony may have wanted it to happen, it wasnt even a remote possibility that HAZE would have scratched the surface of Halo's domination. And its highly unlikely that Killzone 2 will be able to do much about it either.

I don't know why people stick labels like Halo killer or MGS killer or GT killer to newer franchises, it does more damage than do any good. And there's already a shooter that stole Halo3's thunder during last winter, sold close to 10mil on two platforms and still sales over 100k each week and shows up in top 10 on US charts.

Gamespy Review - 2/5

Pros: Nectar withdrawal visual filters; multiplayer functions smoothly; swamp level.

Cons: Poorly defined, badly performing graphics; few multiplayer modes; super-short, trite plot.

UGO review

Haze could probably have used another delay or two for additional polish time. Even the strongest moments rarely rise beyond the level of okay. Co-op play is where the game gets to shine, but that's more because you can stem the disappointing mediocrity by turning it into social time with a buddy (or three). Unless you've got plenty of real world drugs to alter your perception of the experience, wait for Haze to make its inevitable descent into the bargain bin.

Gamespy - 4/10

It's clear from the bare-bones multiplayer, glitchy graphics and incredibly short storyline that Haze is a game interrupted. Discussion of whether Free Radical did not anticipate the difficulty of building a next-gen engine or whether it ran out of resources is academic at this point, because GameSpy can all see that Haze is not finished... not graphically and not narratively, either. For a much-hyped, blockbuster PS3 exclusive, Haze does very little to endear itself or the PS3 to anyone.

Dude!

The Demo was looking sh*t but most of us ignored it because it was from an earlier build. If the final build looks almost the same like the demo one then the game is sh*t. I am picking the game because of co-op value tbh
