WhiteWolf
Next week's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco will see the unveiling of the next Unreal Engine, the software that powers many of the games we play on consoles, PCs and mobile devices. Epic Games is showing off the Unreal Engine 4 behind closed doors, meaning we might not hear too much about its next-gen platform for a while. Epic says it will be previewing its next-generation game tech to "select licensees, partners and prospective customers during the exhibition." Those who do see it will be bound to non-disclosure agreements, meaning blabbing about the prospects of next-gen visuals is verboten. The Unreal Engine maker showed off its "Samaritan" demo (pictured above) at last year's GDC, an "Unreal Engine 3 real-time demo [that] represents what Epic wants to see in the next generation of games." So expect something even prettier, whenever we get to see it. Mike Capps, president of Epic Games, took to Twitter last week to get the hype for Unreal Engine primed, saying that internal demonstrations of its GDC demos "made people gasp, literally." GameTrailers and Side Mission will be at GDC next week, ready, willing and able to gasp at the future of Unreal Engine. http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mission/2012/02/27/unreal-engine-4-being-shown-at-gdc-next-week-just-not-to-the-public/

playstation
Wow surprisingly low interest in what will probably power most of the next gen games.. how can you be so sure that most next gen games will be powered by this engine again?? just because unreal engine 3 was used a lot does not mean that upcoming unreal engine will be again used widely also this time quite few big companies are coming up with their own new engines...i believe EA already has that frostbite version 2 already and even Konami is working on new engine called Fox Engine.....square enix is also working on their own engine....there was some demo shown also some time back. dont remember the name. Still looking forward to seeing this and hope it delivers.
ScrewyAurum
Yea but ea isn't gonna source out fb2 to other companies..and epic always tries to make their engine really versatile why do you think ue2 and 3 were such big successes..
playstation
Yea but ea isn't gonna source out fb2 to other companies..and epic always tries to make their engine really versatile why do you think ue2 and 3 were such big successes.. okay but that is what i mean when i said EA,SE,Konami,Capcom all making their own engines so it would mean that they would be using their own engines in next gen consoles .Epic ue2 and ue3 were success but at that time i believe many of these big companies did not had their engines ready also. ScrewyAurum
Actually they did.. FIFA always had a in house engine so did dice and capcom too but still ue3 was used by so many devs like bioware rocksteady netherrealem etc
playstation
Actually they did.. FIFA always had a in house engine so did dice and capcom too but still ue3 was used by so many devs like bioware rocksteady netherrealem etc okay but it wont be same story for ue4 as it was for ue3 and ue2. These company will start utilizing their own engines now as much as they can....i guess this is one reason why they putting their resources to develop engines for next gen consoles. ScrewyAurum
That's the thing studios like rocksteady cyberconnect2 and all independent studioes don't have the finacial power or time to make their own engine.. It's more cheaper for them to lisence out an existing one and modify it according to their needs
WhiteWolf
Unreal engine is used by independent developers, big publishers like EA and Ubisoft prefer their own engine now. ..Most of the EA games will use Frostbite 2 in future.... ScrewyAurum
During GDC, Epic Games showed off its next-gen target demo Samaritan running off a single, unannounced Nvidia graphics card. You can now purchase that very same card. Nvidia today announced the GeForce GTX 680 Kepler GPU. "With Kepler we wanted not only to build the world's fastest GPU, but also the world's most power efficient," said Nvidia's James Wang. The company says the GTX 680 introduces two major changes: A completely redesigned streaming multiprocessor and a new GPU Boost feature to increase clock speeds. It also draws "at most" 195 watts of power compared to 244 watts on the GeForce GTX 580. At GDC last year, Epic Games showed off the same Samaritan demo running on three GTX 580s and using an insane amount of watts. Given this revelation, the GTX 680 might have the GPU specs hardware manufactures Microsoft and Sony target to use in their upcoming, and still unannounced, next-generation consoles. The card is on sale for $499 at select retailers. Head over to Nvidia's official website for a look at comparison charts and screenshots.
