KnackChap Posted March 13, 2008 Report Share Posted March 13, 2008 Dvd 2 is like playing ps2 game on ps3 upscaled.it will look only as good as the source, no amount of upscaling can change it. also in most cases it will highlight the flaws that would not have been visible on the sd version.oh and dont even think about 5.1 or more. Ppl who buy 1000-2000$ hdtv want true hd, and ppl on sdtv wont care because it'll still look sh*t. And lol looks like some ppl are yet to recover from the hddvdead announcement. Movies studios don't give a rat's a*s about niche markets - yeah you with the 42" HDTV and 7.1 setup. We wouldn't have crap like the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels if they cared for what the critics thought. Movie studios care for the mass, the people with the SDTVs. And if they want DVDII, they'll get it. Meanwhile, BluRay prices just have just shot up. What happened to passing profits to the consumer? Or have we conveniently forgotten about that because of the monopoly? You're going to pay for choosing BluRay. Pun intended. We'll resurrect this thread in one year and have a laugh. You and me both. Posted March 14, 2008 Report Share Posted March 14, 2008 Correct me if i am wrong: but wont decent upconversion require an HDMI port on the player and most current DVD players dont have one and the ones with a HDMI port have been in the market for only like 18-24 months and are comparitively expensive. Those who have a SDTV will settle with DVD2 for now. I can't understand how can it be termed a format war in the first place? DVD II is like BD Profile 2.0(BD Live) Existing DVD players can be likened to BD 1.0 players(barring the PS3) which cannot access advanced features of BD Live, but can play the movie and standard featurettes just fine. So it's not trueHD. So what? It's a new & improved DVD, for the customers who are fine with DVD and still not ready to adopt HD for whatever reasons. Allow consumers to decide for themselves how much high definition they want. Don't impose your arrogant opinions on them. Not everyone is a gamer or an audio/videophile. It's like saying, "why do you have a stupid Sony speaker setup man, get a Denon Amp and KEF speakers - now that's true mindblowing sound. Your setup sucks."
