Do any of you guys read this blog called 'The Vigil Idiot' ??? This guy Sahil Rizwan rips off (and apart) all the terrible bollywood movies in a stick comic book. After reading his reviews, you wont have to read another.

The Race 2 spoof was so complicated, I can't imagine how awful the movie actually would have been!!

I have read Nagraj comic book which absolutely ripped out the entire story from an Eddie Murphy movie.

So you mean to say you actually KNOW who made that movie?! :P

Absolutely.. I could overlook the film of a good film maker.. but people like Abbas Mustan, David Dhawan and Madhur Bhandarkar are always on my radar.. so that I know and let the people around me know to avoid their films. Also, a film's style tells you who is the director :D

Which Nagraj comic?

Also, does anyone remember Manoj Comics? They were expert at ripping off movies. Predator made into Vinashdoot Karkenta, Terminator into Mercury Man etc etc. These were so story to story rip offs that even when I was a kid I knew they copied these movies. Pathetic

There was this uttelry stupid comic which ripped off the script of a Hollywood movie (The Golden Child) and whackjobs didnt had the brains to think of a good title either.

Comic name was Nagraj aur Papraj.

Cant believe you missed that.. surely u read the comic ? (awfully copied)

You give them an earful. 'Dhishum' boss

I even saw Diamond comics using looney tunes characters. iirc, they used Yosemite Sam as Baba Mauj (you read that right), Daffy Duck was named as Pintu, and Bugs Bunny was Cheenu. They even used Gummy bears and named them something like bambu and shainky. Oh and Chip and Dale too.. Gilgil bhai.

Damn i recalled most of em...

Raj comics' commentary/dialogues has been so crass and beyond pathetic, feel like stabbing the writers. (with room for exceptions)

Nagraj and Papraj was copied from The Golden Child ?? Sorry but I havent seen that movie.

One of the many reasons I preferred comic books over TV was that there were regular power cuts in my town :P

Besides, plagiarism was not even an issue back then (or even now :P ) .. did you remember a comic book called Nagraj aur jadugar Shakura ???

Raj Comics used Batman, Spider-Man and Superman as Nagraj and Super Commando Dhruv's sidekicks in that story. Didnt even change their appearance or names. Sanjay Sir laughs remembering all this.. he said that they (he and his brothers) were just teenagers then and so they did everything they wanted to.

And I am not sure if you know it or not.. but Manoj Comics and Raj Comics belong to the same family.. it was just a spat between two brothers that they went on their separate ways and Raja Pocket Books (and thus Raj Comics) was created. But Manoj Comics were not the kings of plagiarism.. it was TULSI COMICS (if you remember) :P They ripped of every bloody contemporary western comic book character.

... and 'Dhishum' Boss... ??? You just sent me back to my childhood :D

Shoot man..

i so want to hear more about such trivia. The whole Manoj and Raj Comics thing was a nice revelation.

And yep, i read tulsi comics as well.. Tausi was real favourite of mine. Together with Manoj comics, they provided with some rustic and truly great world of Sorcery. Diamond comic's Tauji + Chacha Bhatija series was very good too for the same genre.

I read most of the comics during my days, and still have em locked up in the attic. The whole Shakura comic was actually nice.

One instance where i didnt mind western characters in an Indian comic cuz they were not given a fake name or something. Plus Nagraj rocked back then.

Bloody hell.. who can forget Angaara. It Was an Awesome concept and seemed like well executed too. (i hope it wasnt lifted/inspired from somewhere)

I read the comics cuz of the gen store in my area rented em out real cheap.. 50p per comic and 1Rs per digest (Good old days when those coins had real value.. quality value at that, cuz of rent i paid). He stocked less of Angaara and Jambu, hence my knowledge n record is low wrt those comics.

I tried to find if there was any source but till today I havent found a single source that even hinted that Angaara was a lift off.

Ergo, I believe he was an awesome genuine kickass character created by none other than Ved Prakash Sharma ji :D

Jambu on the other hand 'can be' cited as a lift off from many characters in western literature (not just comic books), but again.. it was amazing.

50p and 1Rs were the standard rate everywhere I guess... :)
