Lord Nemesis Posted March 15, 2008 Report Share Posted March 15, 2008 Just some background first, I got a 10k bonus awarded to me by our Company for being the Employee of the Quarter and there is some additional cash inflow for me this month. I recently got a 40GB PS3 as replacement for my older 60GB PS3 and the balance price difference of 5k is going to be returned to me. So that makes 15k in total. As for the 10k bonus, I was told that it can either be deposited as cash with tax deducted or I can also get some product in India with valid bill (Imports not allowed) and get the full 10k reimbursed without any tax deduction. I have some more extra funds coming at the end of this month in the form of year end bonus. There was not much I wished to get in India and the only useful things that came to my mind are the XBOX 360 and Sony PSP. (Not interested in regular media players like iPod etc since I don't care for music much) Since I do not travel much, PSP does not make a lot of sense for me at the moment, so the remaining thing is XBOX 360. Some time back, I had even ordered an XBOX 360 Halo 3 Special Edition console and changed to a PS3 at the last moment. Today I have enquired about the current prices and I got the following XBOX 360 Pro - 24k XBOX 360 Halo 3 Special Edition - 27.5k XBOX 360 Elite - 30k I think I can discard the Halo 3 Special Edition since it does not make much sense with the Elite priced at just 2.5k more. So its a stand off between the Pro and Elite. XBOX 360 Pro is cheaper, but again is pretty old stock without HDMI and neither does it have the newer Motherboard design. XBOX 360 Elite is costlier, but comes with a 120GB HDD and also bundles the adapters/cables required to connect the same to my LCD Monitor (Dell 2007WFP) and speakers. But again, It seems the Elite is a limited edition, so what happens if the XBOX 36O decides to go RRoD on me. So what do you say guy's ? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
lastAvenger Posted March 15, 2008 Report Share Posted March 15, 2008 I would say get the Elite [ I haven't read the whole thing ] Elites are still new compared to the old stock of Xbox360 Premium/Pro. I think they are the falcon models which means the probability of it RRoD'in is very very less. Just so you know the big difference between Elite and Pro is the 120gig hdd if you compare the accessories. Rest all of them are the same in both the packages. john117 Posted March 15, 2008 Report Share Posted March 15, 2008 dude hold on for a while .. the prices u got are going to fall by some 4000-4500 bucks coz of the recently announce 100$ price cut in xbox prices in us ... and go for elite if u can afford it . else get the core version and dont worry about the RROD issue if u aint gonna mod the console .. otherwise there are many modded ones up for sale in trading post its up to u .. u interested in live .. then go buy elite or pro else for ahem ahem u can get El Cheapo modded xboxs . Yeah, I am aware of the price cut in Europe, but the thing is will there be any price cuts on the Elite since this is considered as a special edition. When the Pro prices fell from 27.5k to 24k, the Halo 3 Special Edition did not decrease in price. Also the company has asked me to get the product before April or they would just deposit the amount with 3k tax cut. Elites Play Region 4 movies.. It sold for 35k when it was introduced in India, but it seems to be selling for 30k for some time now though the price decrease has nothing to do with the price decrease of the Pro console. I think they decreased it since it was not selling well. u should be gettin pro 22.5k .. wid 4 games free. maybe elite in india is still expensive bcoz they r Australian imports.. Elites Play Region 4 movies.. Premium sold in india Plays region 3 dvd's n both of them play PAL games I face alot of problems playing original dvd movies in my elite I do not have much concern about the DVD playback on the XBOX 360 as I already have a PAL PS3. I am inclined towards the Elite because of the HDMI Port and the updated Motherboard design. The Pro consoles selling in India are pretty old stock without the HDMI and probably reject from the rest of the world after they got the updated Pro consoles.
