FT-9
New US online retailer EKGaming intends to share 10 per cent of pre-owned games sales with publishers and developers. The company said it wants to promote a "circle of life" in the retail environment, creating a new revenue stream for publishers and developers, as well as allowing consumers to continue to buy and trade second hand games. "Publishers are spending record amounts of cash on new game development. This increase in dev costs is steering them in directions that don't necessarily jive with gamers, causing them to take less risks on new and potentially exciting IP's or game mechanics and sticking with tried and true properties that are more of a guarantee," commented CEO Mike Kennedy. "We want to share our used game revenue with them so they can continue investing in new gaming experiences without worrying about the negative effects used games could be having on their operations." The retailer also said it intends to "guarantee" better trade-in credit for games compared to the High Street competition - up to 30 per cent - taking advantage of the low overheads of the online marketplace. It currently offers $40 trade-in credit for titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, The Witcher 2 and Assassin's Creed Revelations, and $30 for Kinect Star Wars and Mario Party 9. Right
Lol. It IS less. For a trade-in of a 60$ game, pub will get 1$, when the game is resold at 50$. And that is the best they can make.

What? I thought if a 2nd hand game is sold at 50$, they will give 5$ to Publisher. If its sold at 25$, Pub will get 2.5$ and so on.

No. They will give only 10% of the profit. They will buy back a 60$ game for 40$ and will sell it for 50$. If the game loses its resale value or its not a hot title, they will buy it for 30$ and sell it for 40$.
Aftrunner
Why are they even bothering? Publishers dont give a sh*t about making 50 cents from a 60 USD game. Worse there is no way to hold them accountable. Its pretty much "Hey dude take my word for it, we only sold 2 used games last month. Here is the 1.75 $ we promised, you can thank us for saving innovative risky games later." Free publicity thats why. :|

Right
Its written 10% of Pre Owned sales: It's obviously about sharing the profit. Why would they give 5 bucks out of 10 they make from used sales? Afty is bang on.

Dude people lie on sales even when they are obligated to present the right amount (Like in case of Taxes and royalties) This case is what you can call a "charity" to the publishers and this isnt an obligation. They can lie all they want in their sales records. Granted it wont be as hilarious as "we sold only 2 used games" but every month accountants will sit together and decide on how much to donate to the publisher so that it just seems realistic. It can easily be 5% of their profit (They will make YOU think its 10% obviously) Also I highly doubt this is a legal agreement,as a company you wont be finding new ways with which you can be sued would you? They only risk their image by doing this. Its just a publicity stunt.
