The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) has been known to be proactive about protecting its interests. In the recent past, it has forced ISPs(Internet Service Providers) to block video and file-sharing websites such as Vimeo.com, RapidShare.com, MediaFire.com, and ThePirateBay.com with the help of court orders to protect its movies from piracy.

Now it looks like one of its subsidiaries, Reliance Communications (RCOM), isn't just content with restricting your freedom on the internet, but is now going after your very freedom, period. At least, that's what subscribers of Reliance's internet services are allegedly being threatened with for not paying their bills.

RCOM customers using Netconnect and Broadband internet services have reportedly been receiving threatening calls from lawyers claiming to represent RCOM. The modus operandi is the same for all instances. The caller introduces himself as a lawyer from the Delhi High Court and intimidates the victims into believing that a case has been registered against them for non-payment of outstanding bills. The "advocate" then threatens the victims with arrest and a hefty bail amount unless they pay their dues immediately.

Even Airtel broadband does that. If told to GTFO and bring the police, they dont do anything. No one wants to file a court case for a bill of few 1000 bucks.

And how difficult it is to pay the bills on time?

It's not just reliance it's standard operation procedure for many companies if you owe the a high amount. A few years back my cousin who is just a teenager was verbally abused by a loop mobile agent for non payment of 400 bucks due, he was shelling out choicest of abuses and my cousin was in tears when he told me about this (stupid teens) , I called back on that guys cell number and told him politely that we are sorry for the mistake and are ready to pay 500 due and 5000 as compensation for incrovenice caused to him, the only condition being that he should come to our place personally for collecting the amount. The guy never called back

he did that only for 400? wow.. there are times i have 2k pending and they don't abuse at alll... they do harass by multiple phone calls, but no abuses and threats. .. airtel broadband btw

I have never left any unpaid dues, some times when I am out of Mumbai and can't make the payment for Idea connection, they just disconnect the phone like a boss, incoming outgoing sab band

The only time when I was late in making payment of close to 1k was for my Citibank CC, but still they did not call for 15 days after due date and later only sent SMS reminders, one of the reasons why I absolutely love that company. While on the other hand my dad used to get calls from SBI recovery team even after making the final payment and destroying the card , he used to get calls for at least 2 months asking him to make the payment

Once upon a time when I was innocent enough, I bought a reliance connection. After I disconnected it I'd not paid the last bill which was around 1k.after 4 years our so I got a Court notice....

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

The same thing happened with my dad.

Even after discontinuing the connection they sent a bill for nothing and on non-payment of that bill my dad received some Court notice. Those people are real a*s holes.

Also a while back some Airtel guy tried to threaten me for delayed payment and stuff. But that bastard didn't know my dad has 3 friends that are at a high post in that company. And I haven't received any call of that sort since. B)

Also this blocking of torrent and file sharing sites is such bullshit.

copyrightlabs.in obtained a court order (John Doe) on the sites having links for movies 3 and Dummu. They sent notices to ISPs to block those URLS. But ISPs, as stupid as they are, blocked the whole sites instead of the URLs.

Btw just found this lying in the pile of letters at my home

They as going to file a case and initiate criminal proceedings against me :panic:

Funny thing though, coz even though the letter mentions it is from a high court advocate, it has been sent using the Tata stationery and return address, is the advocate a double agent :O
