Splinter cell: Blacklist

Well this isnt really very good is it?

First how, how the hell does a game releasing in 2013 manage to do lighting worse than Chaos Theory. There are barely any dynamic lights, the lighting itself looks terribly flat and dull, no real gradients. Even the dark areas look bad (and yeah I adjusted the settings).

The checkpoint system means there isnt really any incentive to try to play stealthily (and by stealth I mean minimal to no contact, not KOing everyone). Unless you like doing the same area over and over again. The movement kinda ruins it. Its still too fast for a splinter cell game. And the AI is really psychic at times. Any time you get detected, even enemies who never saw you and werent even in combat range instantly know where your last known position was.

The level design is somewhat ok. If only there was good gameplay design to back it up.

Oh and why the bullshit XP unlock system. Really why?

The game really has no idea what it wants to be. Like a jack of all trades and master of none. Its not really a good stealth game. Its not really a good stealth action game either. At least its not Conviction. But then again it has no convictions. Lets try to pander to as many markets as we can.

Edit Oh and the guy voicing Sam Fisher. Seriously *beep* you already Ubi. Just pay Ironside whatever he wants.

LOL. So glad I didn't shell out money for this despite it getting good reviews. Conviction was just atrocious and this looked like it was more of the same.

RIP Splinter Cell.

I personally liked it during my time. Ubi probably wanted to cater to all audiences; and hence elements from conviction made re-appearance. However; the option that you could still play in the stealth mode pretty much throughout was why i really liked it

+1 +1. I personally enjoyed it. Sure it was not like old games (which is not surprising), but it's much much better than conviction. The AI is pretty good & challenging on high difficultly and co-op is blast!

Looking at the negatives Aftrunner mentioned, it doesn't seem like playing in stealth mode would be enjoyable either.

Still, I'll probably give this a shot once it gets cheaper :P

Honestly, saying its a better stealth game than Conviction isnt really a compliment here. I mean lets face it as a stealth game, Conviction was pretty terrible. So it doesnt really take a whole lot to 1 up that.

You can choose to play it stealthily but your definition of stealth would be different from mine. To me stealth is ghosting a level. Minimal to no contact with the enemies. Leave no bodies behind. Blacklist (theoretically) would let you do that but due to the checkpoint system it is incredibly frustrating to do it.

So after that you are left with knocking out everyone. So what does it really matter if the enemy is KO'd or if he is dead. And then you might as well start popping off headshots, cause the game sure doesnt care. Why should you?

You can ghost through it if you want, and the game gives you enough tools to do it, more so than in previous games. And the XP reward for perfect ghosting (leave everything undisturbed) is way higher, like 2 or 3 times more iirc, so there's more incentive now like in MGS games.

  • 1 month later...

i so want to get this game on PC...played the ps3 version and sold my copy on release....but UPlay :nerves:

This game apparently has incremental updates and it was upgrading itself to a newer version every time I launched it. It has stopped that now after downloading updates 3-4 times. It isn't so bad now. :)
