RPS: Wot I Think: Watch Dogs

I struggled at first to resolve the varying quality levels of Watch underscore Dogs. Its city is beautiful. I enjoy spending time in its open world. The architecture, the detail, the music on the radio, the re-created streets, the wind effects, the traffic and pedestrian systems… All this art. Isn’t this the magical 90%? Is Watch underscore Dogs too expensive to hate?
Then I remembered. Those things aren’t a game. The game is sloppy controls which cause you to constantly do the wrong thing accidentally with disastrous consequences; is inconsistently interactive world design; is a cover system whereby you get stuck on scenery or it guesses incorrectly where you want to move. The game is insta-fail stealth missions, wave-defense missions, escort missions, missions where what the character’s say and what the objective is don’t match up. The game is five crashes to desktop, including two which required me to reboot my machine before it would reload. The game is restrictive objectives which don’t make use of the possibilities provided by the open city or the hacking mechanics, and checkpoint positions that force you to re-watch short cutscenes or re-perform rote actions after every death.

Those who have this on PC, would you suggest playing this with KB+M or controller, I play AC games with a controller but other open world games like Saints Row, GTA etc which have lots of shooting with a mouse.

If you are good with controller, then go for it. It's designed for controller.

Also, they messed up mouse acceleration.

Mouse Acceleration Fix -

For Windows 7) Go to "C:\Users\UserName\Documents\My Games\Watch_Dogs\*\GameProfile.xml" (Or figure out where GameProfile.xml is stored in your PC) and open this GameProfile.xml in text editor like Notepad."

In '<GameProfile....</GameProfile>' change "Sensitivity=" to 1, "UseMouseSmooth=" to 0 and also set "Smoothness=" to 0.

I strongly prefer M+KB and tried it at first in this game but it just doesn't work. The camera is designed for a controller. You can mess around endlessly with sensitivity settings but in the end the controller is just works better. I'd say the M+KB is worse than it is in the AC series, which basically means Ubi messed it up royally. There are 2 levels of auto aim in case one isn't particularly proficient with controller aiming.

Something is very wrong with the day time lighting in this game. First of all, there is no texture filtering at all from what I can tell. It's as if the devs completely forgot to implement AF. That's the reason we're getting those PS2 level shots in some places. The default brightness is too high, the high quality textures certainly don't look like they should be using 2GB vram and I kind of feel some of the shaders are off. Luckily you can force high quality AF from the driver control panel, forcing highest quality shadows and enabling the highest level of HBAO stops the game from looking like it's just plainly lit surfaces stitched together. This leads to the problem of requiring very high or max settings for the game to not look like sh*t in the day, which hurts performance. I can stay above 45-50fps for the most part if I keep my CPU overclocked at 4.2 but in this summer heat I don't want to do that. At stock clocks the framerate can drop into the mid 30s and there's not a lot of room for tweaking around the settings. What I eventually ended up doing is locking the framerate at 30 and maxing out everything but the super expensive antialiasing options. The game looks good enough now (and absolutely phenomenal at night) but 30fps... first time I've had to lock a game to 30fps in maybe 10 years :(

@people who ordered from fk did you get your copies?

Freakin FK, the order arrived today morning at 6. Called the ekart guy and he said they have a hold on the shipment from flipkart. called flipkart and the rep is absolute zero about the issue. All she kept saying was ur order will be delivered in next two days. I had to tell her everything clearly and still she doesnt get it. And FK twitter support said they instructed ekart to deliver it and when i called ekart, they said they havent received any instruction. Bunch of lies. What the point of pre-ordering it??? We are not breaking any street dates. No wonder Amazon is catching up soo fast.

This. They dont even have trilinear filtering it seems, and hence the roads look like sh*t during day time.
