Watch Dogs is an Xbox 360/PS3/PC title, Ubisoft confirms

Watch Dogs, Ubisoft's brand new futuristic espionage IP, is heading to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, the publisher has confirmed.

Some, including us, suggested that the game could be a next-gen launch title.

However, the game is listed as being due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on Ubisoft's press network.

"Development of Watch Dogs is being led by Ubisoft Montreal," commented Ubisoft, "with a team comprised of industry veterans from blockbuster franchises like Assassin's Creed, Rainbow 6 and Far Cry.

"Watch Dogs blends cutting-edge technologies and sophisticated game design into a realistic and living open world where players must use any means at their disposal to take down a corrupt system."

Watchdogs will be developed in Ubisoft Montreal studio under the guidance of a team of gaming industry veterans who have been awarded with the creation of blockbuster brands such as Assassin's Creed, Rainbow 6, and Far Cry. Merge into watchdog, the latest technologies with a sophisticated game design, providing an authentic, living and open world in which all the players must use their available resources to bring the case to a corrupt system.

In watchdogs players enter the dangerous world of Aiden Pearce, a unique anti-hero whose most powerful weapon is the ability to be able to hack into any network system. Whether it's throwing a pile-up by manipulating the traffic light system for the capture of a criminal or to take over the municipal surveillance cameras to obtain personal information about any person, Pearce is able to control almost all the elements around him.

"Watch DogsTM exceeds the limits of all known open-world games and gives players control over an entire city," says Jonathan Morin, creative director at Ubisoft. "In Watch DogsTM can do anything directly with the central management system of the city connected, is the weapon. We have expanded the boundaries of what is possible and are thus able to offer the player action and intelligence gathering capabilities, as he has never seen in a video game. "

Looks very cool.

Interested to see how it plays if you f**k things up. Does it force you to restart and do things its way till you do it right or does it roll with it and give you more options? If its the first option then its just another pretty pointless game. If its option 2 then it could be something special.

Same feeling. The cutscenes gave an impression that it was mostly scripted.

If not Thief 4, this will do. I'm a sucker for stealth based games with cool gadgets. As others pointed, if the game is scripted...it won't be much fun but if it allows you multiple ways to complete the mission like in Deus Ex, SC, Thief etc. it should be f**king awesome.

Also, did anyone see the dev gameplay walkthrough? Around 9 minutes or so, after he kills the bald guy, a UI indicator flashes "Intrusion detected" and some other player joins into his world. The player who has intruded into Pearce's world communicates with some other player and says the group objective is to protect Pearce. Was it the multiplayer or some scripted event? If not a scripted event, the multiplayer could be something interesting.
