i3dvector
Hi all, My graphics card seems to overheat a lot. I am not sure if it is because of my stingy cabinet or my non- air conditioned room or my board or my card itself! In OS the temperatures are around 75C.. In games it crosses 100C.. Yesterday I was playing GTA IV and after 30 mins, display went kaput. When I touched my card, it was crazy hot. then I had to restart the PC for it to work again. Please if anyone who knows about this can you help me? I'm living in Chennai. If some one could come to my home and check it I would be really appreciate it.. and the card is out of warranty.. and almost 2 years old.. Thanks in advance. Rowlot
If your fan is spinning fast make sure your card is not overclocked. Drivers/Firmware. Get GPU-Z or similar tool to compare the frequencies. Check fan speed and as a last resort try purchasing a new fan. What are your CPU/MB temperatures are like? Ram Dante
Which gfx card do ya own? Things you could do: >>Try switching the drivers? Because some drivers tend to overheat the cards. >>Try Cleaning the gfx card fans. >>Does your cabinet have proper ventilation? Try keeping the side bay open while gaming just to check if that makes any difference in temps. If all this doesn't help, then your card is probably dying, you could try this as the last resort, >>Open up your card, and add some thermal pastes over the main GPU chip, also get some thermal pads for the memory chips if they are worn out. Ram Dante
My 8800gt used to overheat too, used to do the same. Get Arctic silver as mentioned by Bhushan, check for some tutorials online, cuz you shouldn't apply too much of the stuff on the chip.
