The 40GB PS3s have a 65nm cell and a 90nm RSX chip. The next revision of the console should have both processors fabricated on a 65nm fab, with 2009 models shifting to the 45nm process. No wonder there are so many SoDs reported. If you track the official PS3 forums, you will notice that there are hardly any threads for so called SoD issue. Mind you that ultimately its an electronic device and there is going to be a failure or two. You dont have to worry if you buy your PS3 from a authorized dealer. Go ahead and buy the version that suits you. Just forget SoD.. its myth. Edit: There is no over heating problem with PS3. The 65 nm and 45 nm refer to the chip fabrication tech. less the nm less the heat. You would bother about these if you were selecting box. Box has over heating problems. I hope you will come to the dark side soon..!!!

I mean just because few people got a problem with reading disks doesn't mean its a universal problem. There are always batches which may have defect.. that doesnt mean the SKU is bad. By the way.. why are you so freaked out and cursing me? I am just giving my opinion about the whole thing, I don't think I got personal about it. Looks like you have experienced it.. or you are just a troll.. try to freakout people with something that you yourself don't know about..!!! sam_816
I noticed that nobody has still answered the question that this guy has asked in the topic...so i'll do the honor Yes, the shopkeeper is trying to fool u... now go and smack his a*s No hard feelings bro but I would like to disagree to that... I got my PS3 40gb GT5 bundle(+gow2 as they told me it'll play on PS3) from Croma(rohini) in delhi... the guys told me the same.. when i went back n started the romping session then they told me that sony's training idiots r giving presentation not updated for 40gb version. they have old product preztns(for 60 or 80gb versions) n teach store staff with the same..actually one of them was active gamer and did extra research online and ws aware that 40gb dsnt play ps2 games... BTW the store manager n 6 attendants were all over the board to help me..they left all the work they were doing and stick by me as bunch of body gaurds, with all offering help in one way or the other.. carried my box all over the place. one took my bill got my file, one served my coffee.. one made me sit in a sofa n connected the ps3 to lcd and let me play game demos till they consulted with seniors.one went to billing station made all the requied changes in the bill n one (finally) carried my box n escorted me to my car.(v good level of service)... offered me free extended warranty n even replaced GOW2 by Resistance FOM(with no extra cost) & even take back the console(not in the regular return policy of the store... they issue credit notes or replace only)...I asked for COD4 though but it was beyond the poor guy's hold to replace an 999 bux game with 2800 bux game.. I am still happy by their gesture though ... Moral of the story: shopkeepers/sales staff is usually ignorant and only repeat whats fed to them during training... lithuvien
well, I don't think that the shopkeeper is out to fool you. My guess is that he /she has little or no knowledge about the system. To give you an example, a few months ago, I was in Planet M, looking for Grappelli. I asked one of the guys and he promptly marched off to the Rock section , much to my horror. But after a couple of minutes, another guy, whose shift had just started, came in and he led me to the rack where they kept Grappelli.
