My PS3 has lost its sanity too.It doesn't play the game at all & always a 'pop' sound when i insert a disc(Disc eject kinda sound). To play one game i have to insert 7-8 games just to make some random game to work then quit it & play the game i want..........Please help.Mine is PS3 250 GB model.

I had the exact same problem with my ps3 slim.Had the lens replaced. Now its working fine. No problem from then.

Hi guys,

I'm having similar problems with my PS3 (40GB) which has served me well for 5+ years now.

On starting up, it switches itself off (3 beeps and red light, I do not have a blinking red light). Sometimes it switches off instantly, sometimes after a few minutes. I have all saves backed up anyways and ejected the disc when I had a few minutes yesterday. My qs are:

- Is it possible this is a power supply issue ? My TV and home theater run through the same power source (which comes off a voltage stabilizer) so I'm pretty sure it can't be that

- Is it possible its just the cooling fans that have broken ? I can't hear the fans spin, but then the machine doesn't stay powered on long enough anyways.

- From all I have read, this seems to be the initial stages of a YLOD/thermal paste issue. How effective is a repair job (ie if the chances of the PS3 YLOD-ing in a few weeks/months are high, I might as well go for a new machine).

Can anyone suggest a reliable and good service center in Chennai (Non-Sony is fine) who can take a look at the machine ? Its an EU 40GB PS3 fat (2007 model).

Thanks.

Its YLOD mate..If have purchased it in India just get it replaced for a new one..Repairs is'nt much effective..

BTW i jus saw yellow light 3 times..As soon as i switch on my PS3 it beeps thrice , yellow light and red blinking light..

ill turn it off and switch it on again and it works as usual...

Now its just a matter of time for my PS3 to die :(

That sucks, thanks for the heads up. Though I suppose 5 years is decent, time to RIP.

Its a EU machine so I can't exchange it. I have to hunt for PS3 repair shops to sell it for spares, especially with a YLOD threat looming. Or use it as a paperweight.

Having the same problem as the OP for almost a month now..... :( My Phat PS3 80GB completed 4 years on the 29th of August....

What next? Replacement? Or should I go with trying to replace the thermal paste? Have done it before when my initial Phat 40GB had got the YLOD!

@SA: What did you do?

Well my PS3 (80GB-2009 model) died(YLOD) some weeks ago before the release of GTAV  So i gave my PS3 for repair to ALFA and they just now confirmed that motherboard is dead and that it will cost around 10K :( I dont know what to do? Should i go to the Sony Service Center?

Looks like, it's time-up for our Phat 80GB PS3 class of '09. :(

I'd suggest you may wanna check with the Sony Service Center as well. That's what even I'm planning to do. Even if I get the 12GB PS3 as a replacement, I can get the mounting bracket and use the 500GB HDD (and restore it) that I have on my current PS3......

Replacement is the best option..

Dont waste time replacing thermal paste..Its not a permanent fix..It'll work for a few days , but you'll face the same problem again...

Deactivate all accounts from your PS3...It can die anytime...U can still play some PS games which does'nt take up lot of processor..

After few days you'll see a yellow light..

My ps3 dint die completely...I used to switch on if i try 3 or 4 times..Was'nt able to play any games , but it used to switch on..

I deactivated all the accounts and bought a new PS3...

Edit : You'll not get 12 gb one..U'll get a 250gb PS3 i guess..Also replace the hdd with the original one..

@ Ei8t

Paying 10 k for repair is foolish...Just get it replaced , it should cost lesser..
