piper
And if I have to dismantle the GPU fans for more thorough cleaning like you did in the picture above, then I'll also have to reapply thermal paste, right? BTW, I have some Cooler Master thermal paste at home, which is more than 3 years old now. I'm sure that thing wouldn't hold good for so long, but it's immaterial anyway as I won't be able to go home till December. BTW, any aftershave is good to be applied anywhere on these components? Clean the GPUs once without dismantling. If the temperature issue persists, then go ahead with dismantling. Also, you can use alcohol (not beer) in place of after shave. If you can afford to waste some, that is
ALPHA17
And if I have to dismantle the GPU fans for more thorough cleaning like you did in the picture above, then I'll also have to reapply thermal paste, right? ^^ No you don't have to reapply the paste although it is highly recommended. Also, age generally does not affect the performance of TIM unless it is almost dry, in that case you might as well use toothpaste as a temporary measure. BTW, any aftershave is good to be applied anywhere on these components? Any acetone type, alcohol base stuff is good, after shave, Vodka, Rum, Whisky and Surgical Spirits. Not after-shave lotions / creams. Hope this helps, Cheerio! Also, you can use alcohol (not beer) in place of after shave. If you can afford to waste some, that is He is straight-edge. Ph3N0M
Okay, everything will be cleaned over this weekend, along with the installation of those 2 new fans(still have to decide about fan positions). BTW, just checked NZXT 200mm fan prices, and it costs 910 for non-LED, and 1040 for LED. Had some dollars in Amazon but they won't ship NZXT fans to India, while others won't work with my cabinet. Seems like I'll go broke next month also(Fak u GTAV special edition and PS3's shitty hard drive, both costing me almost 7000 combined). :'-( PS: Yes, I'm straightedge, but can easily get some alcohol from friends. Expensive, on SP Road you can source dust filters ~350/- -->750/- quid depending on the fan diameter (not sure on exact prices now) from Golccha IT or at-least they had them in stock till I was going to them last year. If you want I can PM you his number. Cheerio!
piper
Expensive ... It is $2.12 shipped. There are other (cheaper) filters also but they didn't seem effective. Also, this one can be screwed onto any existing 120mm fan and can be cleaned separately. Being metallic I'd say durability would be excellent. Remove, dust, wash, dry, re-fit. Might order a couple of these.
ALPHA17
^^ Okay, give it a shot. I read $2.12 as $12, sometime later I was asleep. It is stainless steel, so less chance of rusting and corroding.
Sach4life
Would there be a need for me to get an aftermarket cooler or fan with gtx 760 and i5 4330? I wont be overclocking or putting multiple graphics cards.
ALPHA17
^^ No need to go it in from the start. You can share temperatures here (post screen-shots) if you feel doubtful and depending on them we can reach a conclusion. Either way, you should not require something really fancy. rahul
Changed thermal paste on my 560Ti TF3 today to AS5. I would say temps have gone down by 4-7 degrees. (from contant 40 to around 34) Stock paste was well applied. No spillage. But I guess after 1 year, effectiveness starts wearing off. Would recommend everyone to do the same. Used the spread-by-finger method.

Side note : Would it be a valid case for RMA if GPU is reaching high (unsafe) temps? It was actually super easy. I dread the day when I'll be installing noctua nh d14 though.. Yep. They should take it back. Check around the internets if the temps you are getting for your card is normal or above.

Side note : Would it be a valid case for RMA if GPU is reaching high (unsafe) temps? Yes, my MSi card got fried in three months after I bought it, prompt replacement in Bangalore. ALPHA17
One of them said to not place the PC very close to the wall. How much merit is there in that suggestion? Decent merit. The tighter the confines in which you are using your PC, more chances of dust accumulation and higher component temperatures due to lack of ventilation. bneck
Hey alpha, a question about cabinet cooling. I have four 120mm fans in my cabinet right now (n400). Two in the front pulling in air and one at the top along with one at the back pushing out. Do I really need anything on the sides? I am getting temps between 35 – 40˚ right now. I have space for a 140 on the left and two 120s on the right.

I have space for a 140 on the left and two 120s on the right Side fans are very useful. They help bring cool air directly to the CPU or GPU. If your CPU and GPU are doing great, then don't unnecessarily spend on fans which will only make more noise and bring in more dust. But if either GPU/CPU are overheating on heavy load then it would be wise to consider a fan.
