Bad Experience with Courier Agencies

Hello IVG,

I'm not sure if this topic has already been discussed. As far as my search went, I couldn't find out something related to this topic. So here I am venting out my frustration!

I'm a fairly new user around here in IVG. This morning, I went to ship a couple of discs to people who had bought them yesterday. My first stop was a Professional Couriers office near my house. The guy sitting behind the desk asked about the destination pin codes to check if they have network coverage there. That part went well as I wanted to ship the discs to Mumbai. The dude then promptly asked what am I shipping, for which I replied I'm shipping DVDs. He said Professional couriers do not ship DVDs. When I asked him why he gave me some central government regulation bullshit. I'm rather sure he dint know what he was talking. I din't want to waste more time arguing with that jerk and went straight to a DTDC office a little far away. There, to my surprise, I got the same response! And worse, he said Postal Service is the only way I could ships DVDs across the country. I was not sure what was happening! The discs are still with me and I had to post an apology to the buyers for the delay.

What's happening guys? How do people normally ship discs? Don't ya'll declare what's inside the package? Is it an one off case happening in Chennai alone? Or, do I have to say I'm shipping "books" as a friend suggested? (I'm not a smuggler for god's sake! :ranting: ) Is there really a central government regulation that says you can't ship discs? If that's true, then the government sucks!

It would be just awesome if someone (who regularly ships discs) can guide me as to how to deal with the courier jerks.

Try DTDC, they usually don't BS around.

@Mods : IIRC there is a courier thread, or maybe I'm mistaken. Either way, this thread as a standalone makes little sense.

Edit : Maybe merging with this thread would be good : http://www.indianvideogamer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24262

Professional courier guys...........they said the same thing to me

but i never faced problems with DTDC

when they ask wats inside i just say that there are DVD's they never said anything to me

i think you should go to local stationary shops there people just take courier on behalf of DTDC,trackon etc (franchisee guys) they dont really ask wats inside

hope it helps

further help read the DTDC FAQ's and rules

Oh, thanks everyone! I managed to ship the discs from another DTDC office (Thanks, Freak!!). These guys in this office themselves were not sure as to why the other DTDC office refused to ship discs.

@Roshan: Do you think the stationery shop wala will give a tracking ID for consignments you ship? If they do, that will be the most convenient way to ship discs!
