Mr.HaPPineSS
I am planning on buying a external hard disk and kinda confused whether to buy 1TB or 2TB 1TB models are usb powered. Wereas the 2TB models are external power supply. Kindly tell your suggestions which would be good for long use Also kindly suggest me the brand Thanks Regards, Arun
Kr1pt1k
I have 1tb wd drive. Till now its good. Also its usb 3.0. I would suggest drive which runs on usb power, as it has more Mobility and avoids failure or corruption due to power cut.
The Wolfy among us
First I suggest you decide what this external drive will be used for? Are you just going to have it as a backup drive to store all your movies etc? and that drive needn't be moved often? Then go for one with an external power source. If you need the drive to be carried around places, get something light, like a 500 gb one without a power source. 1 TB and 2TB ones without a power source will usually have lower read/write speeds. Bro, correct me if I am wrong, but new external drives with usb 3.0 have quite fast read and write speed.
The Wolfy among us
Agreed, but do you have a laptop or a desktop which has a USB 3.0 port? Also, USB 3.0 with power will be faster than USB 3.0 without power
Big Boss
Get portable one. The external power source is a hassle even if you use it occasionally, it is an old tech on thev verge of dying. 2 of my friends have their HDDs corrupted after 1 year, even though they used occasionally. Think about the data they lost. I have 3 USB external drives, 2 500 GB and one 1 TB. All from Seagate Go Flex series. Working fine since 2-3 years. There write speeds vary from 25-40 mbps depending upon amount of files, and read speeds are way fast.
piper
My friend has a 1TB USB 3.0 drive (USB powered compact one). And read/write speeds were ~80MBps on a USB3.0 port. On USB2.0, same drive, same file gave ~36MBps speed.
Kr1pt1k
As far as brand is concerned, go for WD or Seagate. One I am having right now is WD. Before this my two transcend drives have gone corrupt.
Mr.HaPPineSS
Thanks for your responses friends Reading from your comments its sure that 1tb usb powered is safe ? Should I go for WB or Segagate and in that which model ?

Big Boss
Yeah WD Passport series is good. Just make sure you get the fastest one if there are multiple model versions like green, black and blue.
Monokuma
I have had 3 transcend HD's and have faced no issues with any of those. BTW, the transcend models also use Seagate HD's, Transcend the outer cover. The latest I got was a Transcend 1TB Storejet 25H2P. Amazing HD! Big Boss
^You are lucky that your transcend is going good. @OP, avoid Transcend and stick to Seagate/WD. I have read too many topics about Transcend failing, and one of my colleague's Transcend failed few days back, but it was external power one. Also, people complain about speed of Transend as well. I get around 28mbps transfer speed for the 1TB portable. But bro the internal HD will be seagate only. Transcend only manufactures the casing. Ph3N0M
Infibeam is good and reliable. But they do delay many shippings as of late. Buy from them if it's cheaper there, and you don't need it immediately.

The GOAT Valentino Rossi46
Western Digital! I have 2TB WD. It depends on you. But anyway you are going to buy 1TB WD and its good choice. 2TB is good for home purpose and usb power 1TB is good anywhere!
