So the Dragon Age Keep official reveal is up. 14+ minutes on how to get your stuff up and running if you've played the earlier game (yes, game. Not games. DA2 never existed).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Good stuff. Like how they've interlocked all choices within it so that you get a prompt if any detail goes awry.

I didn't imported or rather couldn't import my Origin save into DA:II because of different regions so it'll be interesting to see how the scenario works out in that case. Though i wonder why why you'd make choices in "watch your story" mode if you need to make choice from the tapestries too??

Oh & good they have those "world slots" for different playthroughs :)

Not really. It started with DA but than Joe made a general comment regarding other future games like far cry and unity.

Anyways, how is the combat in dragon age games as compared to the likes of witcher and skyrim?

you will have power/potion/medicine (list of 8-9 keys) where yo can assign your powers/skills - which will show at button of the screen - you can click the power icon or keys to use the power. You will use right click on ground to move your players or attack enemies. During the combat, you can press the SPACE button which will pause the game (like mass effect), you can pause it for unlimited time and plan your attack and can chain multiple attack for all of your band of heroes ( you can also control other heroes directly in Dragon Age). So action is as fast as pace as Witcher or Skyrim. You need to get prepared for your upcoming battle and each battle is like a small chess game- which is the best features of this game. It's more of a weekend game with enough time and mood rather than daily after office game quick rush 1 hour play. Hope this will give you the initial picture

Okay, the new Inquisition combat system is a merger of two schools of thought.

It picks up real-time combat elements from Dragon Age 2, The Witcher 2 and Kingdoms of Amalur school of thought and merges them with the more old school tactical combat system as exemplified by Dragon Age: ORIGINS, Knights of The Old Republic and The Witcher.

The combat can be resolved by individually microing your party members around and giving them ad-hoc orders depending on the situation OR you can use the more old school approach of setting up IFTTT instances, which, depending on engagement to engagement works on a pre-set behaviour pattern and implementing it; so your mage will use certain spells and conserve their mana whilst your tank will keep the enemies attention. All this is over-ridden by the TACTICAL OVERVIEW, which pauses the combat and allows you to give commands to your party (in a queue if needed) and then implements the commands you gave in real time.

Inquisition also allows you to target certain body parts of large enemies to weaken them before delivering the coup de grâce.

Hope this helps, you understand the system in place.

^ Good post. Even if one still has any doubts just look at this and you'll get everything :P

In all seriousness though, I much much prefer Origins combat than DA:II. God I hate some of those combat animations in DA:II, how the wave design is handled in the most atrocious manner, no nuance or hint of tactical flexibility. Just a case of how much attrition you can pack in a battle.

PS- Also read on GAF that if you switch to a controller on PC, the PC UI will change to the console one. Crap decision.
