ScrewyAurum
Karateka Genre: Side-scrolling/Beat 'em up Developer: Liquid Entertainment Platforms: XBLA, PSN and WiiU Release: XBLA Nov 2012, PSN, WiiU TBA Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner's remake of his 1984 side-scrolling beat-'em-up Karateka is slated for a 14th November release on XBLA, according to Xbox.com. A PSN and WiiU release are also in the works and while no release date has been announced, it's safe to assume they'll be released around the same time frame. The reboot is being developed by Rise of the Argonauts developer Liquid Entertainment and being published by D3Publisher. Much like Prince of Persia - and every other game from the 80s - Karateka tasks players with rescuing a kidnapped princess. This is done by fighting through a gauntlet of increasingly challenging one-on-one battles ala Punch-Out or Infinity Blade. The remake's art is being handled by Jeff Matsuda who previously worked on animations for The Batman and Jackie Chan Adventures. The music is being composed Christopher Tin who won a Grammy Award for his work on Civilization 4.

NitroNeo
The art style is pleasing to the eye though will take some time for me to get used to it , The Batman well that explains it all , i found that show entertaining so wont be much of a hassle

Big Boss
Original Karateka was bit hard to be enjoyed. Sometimes I played it like a boss and other times I was just pwned. Not sure if want. OT: There was on NES game, it was set in old Japan. We played as a Ninja, the first stage was a jungle and we could jump real high, throw shurikens and use real short blades, anyone remember that game? It was standard in those 64 in 1 cartridges that came with NES rip off consoles. It was called Legend something. EDIT: Got the name, Legend of Kage. Annoying music haha. Shadoken
The original was literally leagues ahead of other games in the graphics department. It was amazing at the time with such fluid and detailed animation. I played the NES version , but I believe this came out in 1984 on the computer. Are you confusing this with Spartan X, which was more fun BTW.
Shadoken
Nah its this one alright. Spartan X was more fun though. It might seem silly now , but that walking animation and stuff was like O_O . I mean back then there was like what 2 frames of animation when a characters walks? (one with left leg and one with right leg ) This game was hard as hell though , dont think i ever finished it. But id always try , it has that core mechanic of movement and mind games that form a fundamental part in Fighting games even now.
Right
Dont think I managed to beat anything other than SMB1, I came really close in islander but lost due to power cut. That was really difficult one cuz you couldnt get lives like SMB and it used to flicker a lot in later levels.
Big Boss
Yeah Karateka was the most graphically impressive of the standard NES games. Later on Jungle Book, Alladin and other Disney games had real pretty graphics.
Right
For some reason, wiki doesn't shoe the NES entry. Any way. it was done in 81-82 for earlier system and its kinda impressive to have such fluid animations at that time.
Shadoken
From the wiki page... A goal was to combine cinematic techniques with game elements to create, at that time, a novel experience, and Mechner programmed some of the screen wipes used in Seven Samurai as game elements.[6] In reflecting on the game, Mechner stated that he did not consider the game as a "fighting game", but instead that of "a story-based game where the gameplay mechanic is fighting".[2] Developing the game for the Apple II proved to be challenging. Mechner wanted to create fluid animations within the limitation of eight frames per second that the Apple II could support, but this itself would be hampered by the presence of any additional on-screen elements, such as one of the palace gates. Mechner found that he could not animate and play music, limited to one-note tones, at the same time, forces him to adapt to these limitations.[5] To create the animations, he used rotoscoping, drawing over images taken while filming his karate instructor demonstrating various movies.[6] Mechner credits his father with creating the music for the game.[5] Work to complete the game took approximately two years, with Mechner submitting the game to Brøderbund during the later part of his sophomore year at Yale.[6] Respect to this guy , truly ahead of its time. Hope this remake doesnt ruin the name.
