Weird modem problem on Ps3

The modem which I had been using was a bit old, so It was changed yesterday, the old modem used to throw some weird a*s problem codes at me so I thought that it was time to change it.

The newer modem wouldn't connect to the ps3 at all. The Ps3 would detect the WiFi signal for 30-50 seconds and then it would just shut down. Neither did the ps3 detect a lan cable attached or any WiFi connection, during this time one can easily access the WiFi through a mobile/ laptop.

I was just seeing the settings and turned the access point off, and Voila! the net worked on the ps3 like a charm, 3 times in a row.

I turned back the access point/WiFi on and the ps3 again refused to identify the modem.

I was thinking that it was a problem with my Ps3 but now I'm doubly sure that there's some setting on the modem that is interfering with the Ps3.

modem? or router? which model?

I havent tried anything with LAN and wifi with PS3 - I always use wifi.

but everytime I enable the "Internet Connection" on PS3, I prefer to check all the settings once.

net works on PS3 means what exactly?

1. Playstation a/c does not sign in.

2. net browsing using the ps3 browser fails

3. surfing the online demos and downladables on PS3 does not work.

I had a couple of similar problems....tell me what exactly happens and I may further explain what I think the problem may be.

One more question ...are you using PS3 proxy to connect to internet or is it directly wifi to internet?

Ps3 is connected directly

Modem is an mtnl one, Beetel 450 tc 1

When the wifi is on, the ps3 doesn't detect any nearby wifi signals, i.e. not even of a padosi and the light for the lan port also doesn't light up

so the connection fails in the first step

Maybe it is a channel issue. Try 8 or 11.

It's set on auto and I've seen it changing channels automatically, will do that and report back.

1. Have you configured the router to allow selective connection to clients using MAC addresses only?

Hope you have verified that in the router config.

2. Is the Internet disabled on the PS3? XMB > Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection > Enable

3. Have you done an Internet Connection Test? Is the PS3 set up as a wireless connection, and not a wired connection?

4. If the PS3 settings are set up correctly, then do a Restore Default Settings, and see if that works (this does not delete anything, but it does reset all of the settings on the PS3). XMB > Settings > System Settings > Restore Default Settings

5. About the LAN port not lighting up:

Sometimes if the cable is loosely fitted then it may not connect properly.

That is not ur problem or the PS3. Some LAN cables just do not fit properly in the port.

Try a different LAN cable.

Or Check if the LAN cable is moved a bit then the port lights up.

I am sure it is the problem of the LAN cable in this case.

1. Currently MAC Filtering is turned off. It allowes anyone and everyone with the WEP password to access the internet.

2. Internet is enabled

3. Done everything

4. It removes the username and password of accounts, and I don't remember them all

5. Without even touching the LAN cable if I turn the modem's wifi off the internet connects in the first try :|

In fact when I scan for available wifi networks when the wifi of the modem is turned on then it doesn't even detect the modem of padosi's and all

Have you tried connecting via wifi after removing the LAN cable?

Yup, have tried almost everything :|

it also sucks that I can't turn on the wifi by connecting my laptop through a lan cable to the modem :|

Could you post a screenshot of the wifi settings ?

Will do :)

This is off the cuff but try to disable Media server on your PS3 network settings. See if that works.
