Chewie
i just opened up my brand new sealed copy of resident evil 5 (bought almost 3 yrs ago frm the US so unfortunately i cant exchange it) & started to install it. it first asked me to update which i did. but after that when it started to install, the ps3 (slim version, going to be 3 years old this december) suddenly shut down & the red light started blinking. i turned it off & when i started it again it says "The system was not turned of proper the last time it was used. the file system of the hard drive may be corrupted ..... The system will restart , check the file system & restore it if it is corrupted , if the file system is corrupted it may take 2 - 3 hours" but it takes only a minute. tried installing it again & again the same thing happens. i've tried it more than 10 times & everytime it crashes at diff installation points (sometimes right in the beginning & sometimes midway thru). i googled the issue & there doesnt seem to be any people with the same problem w.r.t. re5 though ppl have faced a similar crash with some other games but they were usually in the middle of a game. i also went into ps3 safe/recovery mode & did a file system check & the rebuild database option. i tried it with internet disabled & enabled & also took out the lan cable. i even deleted the game data installed (which included the patch dl'd) & tried again without the patch but no go. some have said this can be caused by the game disc but this is brand new & there are no scratches or blemishes so how can that be?? also just before this i'd just finished mgs4 which requires installation to hdd at diff stages & it worked ok. also dl'd & installed demos frm psn without a hitch. just before this though i'd experienced a similar crash when attempting to play "i am alive" demo which would freeze up in the beginning cutscene. it happened 4-5 times & each time it would crash & i would have to do a file system check on startup. then i googled it & found that it was a known problem with the game when something was dl'ing in the background. so i disabled the internet & it worked fine but now i'm wondering if those repeated crashes have somehow broken something? so what could be the cause & is there any fix? also do repeated crashes like these hurt or damage the ps3 in any way? the last i tried the re5 installation, it would resume installing from the point it crashed at till it crashed again (so after 4-5 crashes & restarts it's reached 40%). is it ok to continue in this fashion or will i do more harm to the ps3? tia
Big Boss
Absolutely no idea what to do. My guess is your HDD is dying. Maybe a reformat will help. Wait for suggestion from others.
Defender487
ur blu ray lens might b not working properly
silentassassin
My PS3 also started acting similar way before it got YLOD.. I suggest not to install that game anymore...Play other games for a few days n see if its the problem with the disc or the PS3.. Basically if your PS3 switches off and red light starts blinking means its hardware error..Can be anything..
Rosh
Most likely it's the disc, try to play(install) the disc on a friends ps3 to confirm. Let us know.
GoobyPlz
i just opened up my brand new sealed copy of resident evil 5 (bought almost 3 yrs ago frm the US so unfortunately i cant exchange it) & started to install it. it first asked me to update which i did. but after that when it started to install, the ps3 (slim version, going to be 3 years old this december) suddenly shut down & the red light started blinking. i turned it off & when i started it again it says "The system was not turned of proper the last time it was used. the file system of the hard drive may be corrupted ..... Please check if Yellow light is flashing "once" before the red light blinks continuously. If that's the case, then the PS3 is YLOD.
Chewie
ur blu ray lens might b not working properly anyway to check or fix that? would a normal cd lens cleaner work? My PS3 also started acting similar way before it got YLOD.. what fw version u were on when the issue started? suddenly a lot of people on the forum are experiencing a similar issue. i wonder if its caused by the fw Most likely it's the disc, try to play(install) the disc on a friends ps3 to confirm. Let us know. thats what i thought but dont have any ps3 gamer friends Please check if Yellow light is flashing "once" before the red light blinks continuously. If that's the case, then the PS3 is YLOD. i'll do that. hopefully its not. i thought slim's didnt/rarely YLOD'd. it sucks that sony cant make a piece of kit that cant last more then a coupla years. i have the croma extended warranty which expire on nov end. wonder if its worth trying to get it replaced but the problem only arises (so far) with this game. would a hdd format help? i'll lose some installed games & demos but if its a good bet then it might be worth it. worst thing is updating the games which cant be done in background. Chewie
@Heaven Angel it's brand new disc, spotless & it works on another console @abhinit90 u mean the game update right. yes i deleted the update. then tried without it. also tried re-downloading the update but no go. i think it's something to do with the firmware/flash memory of my console getting corrupted prob'ly due to repeated crashing when trying to play the "i am alive" demo but i restored the file system from safe mode & that's not helped either
Insane_killer06
I faced this same problem with Transformers fall of cyberton around 10-15 days back. My console used to get crashed when i was on level 9th. I asked my friend and he told me that disc has some issue. I gave that disc to my another friend and it ran flawlessly on his console and he completed the game on his console
