Need help in buying , learning a guitar

Hello fellow IVGians ..

Since so many people here are interested in music (i saw the music thread) m pretty sure some people here might know how to play the guitar as well .

I need help in buying an acoustic guitar of a low budget for starters . What brand should i buy ?

Also need help regarding info like where should i learn the basics from ?

A tutor or google would help me with basics and i can take up advanced lessons from a tutor Etc.

How much time/ dedication would it take to be actually able to play it .

In the end i would really appreciate if only people who actually play it/ have played it at some point in time of their lives , answer the above mentioned questions .

Also i apologize if this has been asked before and request the moderators to move this to an appropriate section if that is the case .

I did try learning guitar at one time...needs lot of dedication...learn the notes and trying to makes those string come alive aint easy.Hours and hours of practise every day only will make you feel like you going somewhere or it will just be all in vain.

I had a private tutor...i left for few reasons..within a month he started asking for a hike in fees and i felt i was not ready to dedicate so much time in it right now...I still have a wish to learn and as i grow more and more self dependent ...i will start again.

btw if you going for it....go with full dedication and not trying to look cool among peers and impressing girls...music is something on a different level and above these things....

I'm a beginner myself. Started learning a month ago. Contrary to your perception, I'd suggest you to take guidance from a tutor especially for the basics because he can correct you for your finger positions and basic technique, something that you might not be able to find out on your own and then you can learn the advanced techniques from online tuts. At least that's what I'm aiming for.

Do know that the initial few days are the hardest in learning guitar so don't give up and keep at it.

I'm also writing a blog about my experiences while learning guitar. Do check it out :)http://guitar.shantanugoel.com

There are quite a few experienced guitar players on this forum as well (I think avishkar plays), you can take guidance from them as well.

I used to learn the guitar till about a year ago. First i went to a private tutor but he wasnt very good so i left. I went to a group class and that was much better and it really helped me. The best thing to do is to take a good tutor to learn the basics. its always good to practice with friends and get help from them. You wont be able to learn it in a few days or even a few weeks, you have to put all your effort and attention into it. Dont splurge all your money on a pricy guitar at first. Buy one that fits your purpose and if you're really interested in learning then you can get a professional one.

Best of luck on your music journey

Go to the guitar shop :P and find it out :P for a cheap guitars there is always fakes :P . i mean like Gibson is good but its costly, but y go for gibson when we have givson :P just visit the shop any guitar from 2.5k to 4k will be fine :P And for learning guitar :| i still dont know the basics :P i mean i know few but i forget the names o of wat it is called :P the scales , its annoying.I was learning from my dad, he plays like a bauss B) . so it strted with basics, learn the strumming stuffs, basic finger movements, i learned that way, then i directly skipped to songs and that to hard metal core :| and presently idk why im mad after Bullet For My Valentine, one of my favorite bands, so im learning their stuff ,its hard but Patience is the key you need. Dont give up and as you go and keep on learning songs you will strt to learn many things , new styles, its really feels good, i just learned a bit of lead of their song and the fact is i never did leads but i did it first time it felt good :PB)

Am learning chords nowdays, if you can tell me about your budget i can ask my sir to guide you regarding which guitar to buy. he alwayz insists that more than the brand it is the wood from which the guitar is made matters more. you can pm me the budget & i will let you know by tomorrow :)
