someone unban that guy and ask him to defend this sh*t - DirectX 11.1 exclusive to Windows 8, Microsoft confirms

this is what valve and the gaming industry is afraid of. how can you stop microsoft from enforcing rules beneficial to themselves, especially down the road when the operating systems have a considerable market share?

and because i'm sure someone will bring out the "dx10 was exclusive to vista" argument, here are some key differentiating factors... a) the gaming industry didn't much care about dx10 or 11 because consoles were stuck on dx9 so most games in the last 7 years have been dx9 too. this is about to change with a new generation of consoles which will likely use the dx11.1 specification, meaning it will become popular with developers and eventually a requirement down the line. b ) when win 7 came out with dx11, they ported it back to vista as well. at least they kept one os behind the latest up to date. they are completely ruling out 11.1 for win 7 now and c) vista wasn't a big success anyway, although the dx10 exclusivity probably has little to do with it.

it doesn't seem like a problem now but if microsoft were to start imposing rules on games that can run on windows 9 or something, saying they have to be certified or sold exclusively through the win app store... that's when the real problem will start and no one will be able to do anything about it. valve doesn't give a sh*t about metro apps but it's a big problem for pc gaming if these kinds of restrictions are a precursor to the stuff that really matters.

Only the Xbox was even using DX in the first place.. The PlayStation's have always used open gl AFAIK.
