@GunnerY2J Are you a professional chef or cooking is like hobby/passion for you ? Your chicken dishes look absolutely amazing :)

No, I am just hungry and have time and mostly cook meat and breakfast.

Plus the family likes them a lot.

Also, stopped online ordering/eating outside.

Most of the dishes I make (the ones above) are extremely basic, just mix everything together and marinate (while tasting - no recipe) and proceed with the chosen way of cooking.

The only tricky thing I make well is mutton Biryani.

Nice . Yeah if you can cook that well without much effort then why bother ordering online .

If you have enough time and are willing to experiment, you can try making pasta directly from dough. You will need an extruder for some of the pasta shapes. Ingredients are available at most supermarkets.

I've seen plenty of videos on Youtube for pasta making.  Here's a good one.

Fish variety question again : @STICK3Rboy @kunjanp

So, the snakehead murrel fish ? (Not sure but is said maral locally) now has risen upto 550-600 rs kg here, so I am considering shifting to other cheaper variety considering their nutritional info.

There's also waghur (walking catfish) costing 700/kg.

One option I see regularly but comparitively way less flavorful is the silver rohu - 200 rs kg.

Try to make something else out of it because its curry was not worth it.

And maybe I could eat it once a week, mainly want to know if it is any harmful - like is it artificially farmed or something to make it this cheap like broiler chicken.

can someone share a good recipe for homemade pasta (sphagetti style) ? the ingredients should be easily available in local supermarkets though.  Also, which is a good brand of pasta to buy ?

Murrel and catfish are always going to be more expensive especially around this time of the year because their population drops in winters.

As for Rohu, it naturally maintains a healthy population throughout the year and hence availability, so that's why it's comparatively cheaper.

And it's very nutritious.

It's not artificially farmed per se, that depends where your local market sources fish from.

But I don't think you will have any problem with it.

Yes, that's what the vendors have been saying.

Would try a few starters with rohu if it can neutralise the lack of flavour, it has lots of thin bones as well though.

@GunnerY2J can't we go for sea fish for nutritional value as they are not farmed (correct me if I'm wrong). And I think Rohu is also farmed so that's why cheap.

Singhara is also very good.

I have absolutely no idea about fishes,

Don't know which one is what, have been buying murrel and want to try others.

On googling I have seen singhara fish in the market, never eaten.

Is it good for starters ? Like tikka, or amritsari.

Only have cooked rohu,

marel (murrel) and cheap (duplicate) pomfret.

And also prawns.

Try Singhara, it's a sea fish (that's what my fish vendor says).

Nice in taste. Will be a good starter. Single bone fish but it's a bit costly. Here in dehradun it sells for 300/- to 400/- kg.

I think it is a kind of catfish but big in size.

Need to check it out.

300-400 will be a very good price,

considering now goat meat is 540 (and only expected to rise)

and murrel 600 rs.

Medium sized prawns also are also like close to 500.

@Kirti

Singhara is a variety of catfish which is less expensive than walking catfish but it's not necessary that you will find it for the less price, it's highly dependent on where you live.

It tastes almost the same and is an alternative.

Works well for tikkas.

Most of the Rohu I have come across are farmed in natural lakes, your mileage may vary.

Also is a bit bland but it usually used to champion the other ingredients rather than the fish itself. It's more for the texture.
