Anyone ever tried Haagen Dazs?

Been there once, they got a shop in Citywalk (new Delhi) the ice creams were just incredible damn!

Yeah. Their ice-cream is pricey but very nice. However I didn't find it all that different (I mean for that price) from some premium chains with slightly lesser prices.

I'm south-indian but i just hate idlis  Everyone else eats them happily but I just hate 'em.

I've been learning to cook properly these last few days and I've made (entirely on my own with only "don't blow anything up" supervision from Mum and the servant) my first proper entire-meal-in-a-single-dish thing.

Did this for lunch yesterday and Mum and Dad loved it (the latter said "Yeah.. not that bad for a beginner" which in his dictionary means "OMG awesome") except for one fact- eating pasta made with this much butter used while cooking (I confess to being a little too generous :P since I'm only learning ) will give you a heart attack sooner rather than later :D

So here's my Farfalle / Bow-tie pasta with white sauce and grilled tomato.

Made it again later that night with slightly more white sauce than seen here (though I think this was enough quite honestly).

Edit: sorry about the presentation part of it, but I only concentrated on the taste.

Graw - that looks awesome. Try this pasta dish for something less creamy and really quick (Serves 4):

250 gms chicken breast chopped

200gms peeled garlic prawns

fresh basil (1/2 cup)

fresh oregano (1/4 cup)

Dried rosemary & thyme (1/4 teaspoon each)

3 chillies

olive oil

lemon or lime juice

salt to tzste

mushrooms

onions (2)

Mix chicken breast, prawns, basil, oregano, chilli, olive oil and lemon or lime juice and leave to marinate (about half an hour which is likely the time it'll take for you to chop the onions and mushrooms)

Brown onions and mushrooms with salt. Add marinated chicken/prawn mixture and cook through.

Cook pasta of choice and mix through with sauce.

Optional: Add white wine to the marinade.

Note: If you haven't got fresh basil and oregano, use dried herbs (about 1/4 of a teaspoon each). If you go with the dried herbs, add some greens when the meat is about 90% cooked through and cook until wilted (eg. spinach, rocket lettuce or even peas).

Thanks, I've actually used most of that stuff with the exception of chicken and prawn. Mushrooms and capsicum were on my list but damn grocery store nearby didn't have it at the last moment. Will substitute butter with olive oil too.

NON-Non-stick frying pan syndrome  .. Thankfully because of my mum's constant supervision when I'm learning I've gotten into the habit of being careful. So till now I've only had a few bits of scrambled egg stuck to the bottom of the pan till now. For this though I used a non-stick pan.

One month from now, no supervision.. no nothing.. I'll be cooking on my own (and eating the very same food :samui: ) Hope I don't poison myself :P
