KyoyaHibari
Heides Tower area reminds me of Anor Londo from DS1.... Beautiful Its just the beginning, the next like Lost Bastille, Sinner's Rise etc keep getting better
MarketTantrik
Lost Bastille isn't an inspired level. Pretty run of the mill as far as the series goes. Heide's Tower and No Mans Wharf are better.
Crimson-Ivy
I was talking about this monster, called Orge I died against that guy the first time too. So, i skipped that area. Never went back there in all the other playthroughs. suggest a dex build weapon. been using blacksteel katana +10. getting 190 + 175(scaling) damage. getting bored with this weapon.the damage is decent but poise damage is negligible.getting hits in between my swings and in ng+, these hits take up a good chunk of health. have 40 dex.40 int. A raw Washing pole+10 is pretty cool. I like that one better than Blacksteel Katana. And then there is uchigatana which I use for nostalgia sake.. I finished dark souls 1 with Lightning Uchigatana. Infusion causes stats to go down. Always use raw and use resin to get effect.
KyoyaHibari
I like Lost Bastille because it has lots of complex routes which is ideal for invasions. Also I loved the location as a crumbled ruins beside the sea, which holds lost sinner and several undead as a prisoners with the wardens guarding them. Its probably only place which makes complete sense of why things are happening the way they were. Lost sunnier is the only boss I liked in DS2 in terms of back story. All combined lost Bastille is almost my favorite area in ds2 along with forest of giants and dragon's Arie. Abdulah
My Character is Swordsman , level 65 . Do i just focus on leveling STR and DEX ? Or should i start upgrading ATN and faith for ranged Spells now ?
Heaven Angel
That's the most fun part. Wandering around and figuring it out by yourself. You try to ask for hand holding, they'll cut your hand off And human effigies aren't that hard to come by, but you can't waste them either. A bit later in the game, you can try to be summoned by other players. Sometimes you'll get your human form restored if you help them defeat the boss. You see that's the thing, can't go online.. not net here, temporarily shifted. missing the online mode, seems interesting
Aloy
There are so many random red phantoms in NG+.It makes NG+ interesting. But still it isn't too hard.I was able to defeat Belfry gargoyle alone without much effort.Same goes for the pursuer. Also from my experience i can say hexes are better than magic/miracles and also all these>melee at least for PVE. KyoyaHibari
No matter what melee wins in the end IMO. Pve and PvP. You may not be able to defeat bosses quickly like with spells, but with practice melee build always reap its fruits. Main advantage being the versatile play style, you can use different kinds of weapons swords, spears, greatswords, ultragrwatswords, lances, twinblades, katanas etc. and dual wield.. For some extra kick use bows, crossbows and dark pine resin. And proudly say 'Don't need no stinky magic' Edited May 13, 2014 by KyoyaHibari
Tyler
Lost Bastille isn't an inspired level. Pretty run of the mill as far as the series goes. Heide's Tower and No Mans Wharf are better. I feel the exact opposite. Lost Bastille is pretty complex especially if you consider the multiple routes through it and all the hidden stuff / Pharros doors etc. Compared to it Heide's Tower and the Wharf are pretty straightforward. meaNmachine
^^ Ya same here. Love the level design of Lost Bastille. Heide's Tower on the other hand is boring. That place just looks good, nothing else special about it. Go left for dragonslayer boss and go right for Dragonrider boss, MEH. My Character is Swordsman , level 65 . Do i just focus on leveling STR and DEX ? Or should i start upgrading ATN and faith for ranged Spells now ? Don't play this game like Skyrim. You can't be Jack of all trades in Dark Souls. Stick to the playing style that suits you. Upgrade either INT or Faith. Both the builds are good and you have many ranged options. Only for Hex build you need to upgrade both INT and Faith equally but I won't suggest that for 1st playthrough or for someone who is new to the series. If you are only interested in melee combat then stick to upgrading STR / DEX or a mix of both depending on the weapon scaling.
Tyler
Pure DEX builds are seriously underpowered in this game compared to DaS1. You'll be much better off with pure STR or a STR/DEX (also known as a quality build). Also even for non-magic builds it always helps to infuse the weapon with lightning or magic and then invest in either FTH or INT. Elemental weapons are the way to go in this game. SpearHea:D
Smelter demon is one heck of a boss , finally a challenging boss fight after pursuer .Spear backstab animation looks so good
Tyler
I don't like the new sword backstab animations though. It looks like you're punching the enemy.
KyoyaHibari
Pure DEX builds are seriously underpowered in this game compared to DaS1. Also even for non-magic builds it always helps to infuse the weapon with lightning or magic and then invest in either FTH or INT. Elemental weapons are the way to go in this game. I thought te same until i saw some Dex weapon users in PvP. Katana, Dagger, Curved sword dual wield users. The weapons might not deal much damage by themselves, but they are extremely fast. Can easily combo 2-3 hits with them if you caught your opponent offguard. Whats worse is the Poise system in the game. The R1 attack of katana can do 60 poise damage, if you get caught in a katana swing with less than 60 poise its gameover. If they add poison or bleed Resin it gets even worse, these are worse than elemental damages. 2-Hand Katana, Twinblade, Spear users. This is probably worst. The 2H R1 attacks of all these weapons have very wide swings so they are very hard to dodge. Once again poise makes it even worse. The running R1 Katana attack, R2 twinblade attack, R2 Spear attacks are also very hard to dodge and does very high damage. Trusting sword users. Very fast and can even pierce trough shields. Surprisingly the Resins does good amount of damage also, so they can simply use resins rather than investing on FTH/INT. Add an avline or a bow to the combination of above weapons for ranged attacks and you are good to go with Dex.. These 3 kind of Dex users are by far the toughest PvP players i faced. The strength weapons can be dodged pretty easily or even parried, Spells can be a bit tricky to dodge but not impossible plus while casting spells you are vulnerable. But the dex builds if used properly doesnt have many weaknesses. It needs a bit of practice to get used to these builds but once you get the hang of it they can be most OP builds. aj21
pvp in heides(ng+) is really good. had some good neck to neck matches today. kind of agree with tyler that pure dex builds are under powered especially in pve.
Crimson-Ivy
If you are a melee character, try Smelter sword. It's really awesome. If you are magic/hex user, nothing beats Great resonant soul. It's so OP. Use with Chime of Want and it's easy mode for PvP and PvE in NG+.
Tyler
PVP is a different game altogether, still I find it easier to stunlock people with hard hitting weapons. Most people asking for build advice here are doing mostly PVE and pure DEX isn't as viable there as some of the other options.
KyoyaHibari
Yeah agree with you, for PvE pure dex builds are pretty underpowered. I used Uchigatana most of DS1 first playtrough, but using katana throughout DS2 would have been a lot difficult. Esp with multiple enemies, the horizontal swings of strength weapons are a lot useful than katanas angled swings.. Im also trying stun locking with claymores wide horizontal swings, running R1 attack or piercing attacks for now, but many guys seem to easily dodge them or some are even parrying. Combining claymore with some hex spells im trying to get an edge.. After i get bored of this build il try STR/DEX build. Mayank
I am going to get the game today from FK, its out for delivery. this is going to be my first souls game, what you guys recommend i mean for starting build and everything? being pretty difficult game made me wanna play this game even more. Also if anyone could shed some light on doing a 100% with this game? what things i have to do in order to get 100% completion? I have no idea about PvP and Co-Op. Thanks
KyoyaHibari
Knight or Swordsman is good build for starters. For 100% completion you need to complete game 2 times and about a half in 3rd playtrough. Just casually play your fiest playtrough, without bothering about achievements. Once you get the hang of things you can try getting some misc achievements in 2nd playtrough. Also the 2nd and 3rd playtroughs takes a very less time to complete once you complete your 1st one. Just remember 1 thing, dont kill any NPCs. you will understand how Coop and PvP works once you play for some time. Dont bother about them for now, just play campaign casually. On other note getting 100% in this wont be as tough as getting 100% in Castlevanis LotS..
