Dark Souls II

  • They're trying to make multiplayer more interesting, but not necessarily more frequent than in previous games.
  • Intending to further balance invasions by adding penalties for invading and failing.
  • 7-8 total covenants in-game.
  • Trying to expand on the idea of hunting down wanted players for a reward, similar to Blades of the Darkmoon in the first game.
  • If you're offline, AI phantoms will be used in place of player phantoms for invasions and boss fights.
  • Areas in the world feature puzzles and "gimmicks" to help keep exploration fresh.
  • Storytelling style remains largely the same. From Software knows that fans will theorycraft with each other based on the trails of breadcrumbs left in dialogue and item descriptions, so they're not going out of their way to make things more explicit.
  • They're listening to feedback from the network tests: Animations and movement are being improved, there will be some way of avoiding invasions.

@joecool Bro actually mirror knight is HARD coz in demo MK spawns AI which have a predictable set of moves.....easy to counter....whereas in real game it spawns REAL players....so its like MIRROR KNIGHT + min. 3 INVADERS at once cribbing for your a*s....that's some challenge !! Of course its manageable with internet OFF !!

I'm going to try to watch nothing on DS2. I want everything to be a surprise.

Yeah but playing offline will really kill your experience. And farming n00bs on that fight ought to be fun.

Never played it online, so didn't know about PvE invasion. =)

(will give online a try).

Also, some new info. Minor spoilers.

Textures look worse than in Dark Souls , but the game runs much smoother ;

Again, you will be able to choose a gift for the initial form : things like Human Effigy , item like the Eye of Death or a piece of wood described " may be good for something " ;

It will be 9-10 different character classes ;

One of the most interesting characters is Gadgeteer . Has weak amenities: leather armor , a knife and a crossbow . However, in contrast to other classes has a lot of bombs, urn ( act as firebombs , but inflict magical damage ) or human effigies .

The game begins with one flask of Estus and 10 crystals regenerative life ;

Character creation options will be greatly enhanced ;

Beards and tattoos confirmed ;

You can raise levels only in Maiden in Green (unofficial name). You can kill her and falls out of the pen, then you may be able to revive it as every major character independent ;

It is very difficult to raise the level of the opponents give a very small amount of souls ;

The game begins in a small town , which is only a few characters and are not willing to help ;

Apparently you have to join the Blue Covenant to have a better relationship with the player;

The beta files found text: " You can not play online, because you have been banned from the multiplayer mode . Game will start in offline mode " ;

There are powerful opponents who are neutral attitude towards the player, attack only when attacked ( like a white knight in this film ) ;

Covenant of the Fittest allows instant 1v1 fight with other players ;

In the center of town was a stone on which was written, how many times a player was killed and how many times in total have died all players ;

Gold pine resin back , changed its visual effects - weapon looks like a lightsaber ;

Removed Resistance statistics , combined it with Agility ;

There are 4 places on the rings ;

Apparently it is a ring that allows for voice communication ;

I really can't imagine playing Dark souls offline. Apart from summoning for help (without which I don't think I could have gotten past those anor londo archers) there are so many other cool things too. Helpful messages, the ghosts of other players in their final moments, invasions etc. Never bothered much with PvP as it was not my cup of tea(plus laggy backstabs suck) Now one can get invaded in hollow form so I'd rather get punked by real players than some AI.

With some practice backstabs can be avoided almost always.

PvP is quite manageable with even slow net, i have 4mbps connection which after FUP becomes 756kbps. I dont face lagstabs at all.

PvP is so much fun because you dont know who will be waiting to duel with you. you may get ganked, or get a high lvl player or a complete noob sometimes.

Its so fun to invade as Darkwraith. and on the brighter side you wont lose anything even if you lose when you invade as darkwraith. Anor Londo is my fav location.

I actually don't like darkwraithing very much. I prefer Darkmoon or the Forest covenant, it makes me feel like I have the judgement of God

And HOLY SH*T COVENANT OF THE FITTEST!!! PVP junkies rejoice!!

Resistance is now combined with agility? It was pretty useless in DS, but that stat was actually looking pretty good all things considered.

I quite like to defy everything and kill anyone for souls and humanity as a darkwraith :P

Its so good that each covenant manages diff reasons for player to fight, sunbros to help buddies, darkmoon to punish sinners, forest to protect their area, darkwraiths for greed of humanity, dragons for honorable duels. Hope this would continue in DS2 also

Hope they increase PvP range from +-10 to something like 20 or 25.. ppl i often randomly meet are always out of my range, so i couldnt ask for a duel out of them
