Dark Souls II

To be really really really honest, don't care. I just want a good frame rate, cause that matters a lot during combat. People who have played DkS on consoles know that the frame rate was absolutely horrible in Blighttown, that level was almost unplayable. And from whatever I have seen so far, frame rate is solid in DkS2.

There are 100 other things I am worried about DkS2 - How does equip load affect rolling speed now? , how does pyro scale?, what affects casting speed?, Can you parry with a two handed sword or as dual swordsman? , How often can you respec stats using soul vessel? , Changes in weapon upgrade, Human effigy and lifestone drop rates, enemies disappearing near bonfires, pvp matchmaking, co-op matchmaking etc etc

^^ These things - core gameplay mechanics can make or break a Souls game. This series has so much depth in combat and other RPG mechanics that graphics is the last thing on my list. It looks much better than previous game, plus they have added particle effects, cloth physics and new animations. I know this cause I have watched compressed live-streams played the beta in October. So ya, I am not worried at all.

^^ IMO

^^^^^ Are they selling Cancer drugs ??? :)

DkS2 engine is designed keeping next-gen in mind....Maybe lighting effects were making frame rate worse so they decided to go against it.....which i guess is the correct decision...

FRAME RATE over lighting anyday !! :)

Lets NOT fret over non-issues like US/EU'Tards.......GET HYPED for one of the BEST games of last gen !! :)

^^ the problem is not low graphics, its false marketing.. Let's hope there is a proper explanation for it..

Wasn't that PC footage? Talking about IGN's 12 min reveal video. I can see 360 controller button prompt in one of the screens posted on GAF.

Just saw the comparison video in previous page and the torch mechanic is definitely absent in the recent clip. But in the BETA it was there. The area was very dark and I had to light the torch many times. Not sure why they changed it.

^ I side with Kyoya on this debate, if you guys don't voice your concerns early on, prepare for stuff like Watch_Dogs.

Also, hope that the PC build gets ported over to the next-generation console.

What happened to the good old days when the Final game ACTUALLY looked better than the initial reveal.

Have a friend who had played the TGS demo in Japan, it was on the ps3. So, the downgrade has happened after that. Most of the mood is lost, I must say. Lets see what the PC version brings, if that brings back the mood then the PS4 version will have it back too. Hope they will let me carry over my characters from the PS3 version somehow. (and not ask me for full price again , pls)

Chote 4200 for CoD & 2999 for DkS2........which one ?? A No-brainer i guess ;)

A very apt on GF ---

Most of this is probably common sense, but I just want to go through a couple of reasons why people shouldn't freak out about, or let themselves get discouraged or put off of the game by the barrage of troll/complaint posts being made about this game in the last 5 days or so. The next few weeks are going to be quite crazy in terms of complaints and opinions and whatnot flying around about this game, so keep things in perspective!

1.) First and foremost is the fact that this is a VERY anticipated game. In my experience with Gamefaqs, the more anticipated and hyped a game is, the more trolls it draws. With a higher volume of trolls comes a higher possibility that there will be clever trolls. By that I mean people that are able to watch a stream or two from beta, make a few assumptions about the game based on experiences with Dark Souls, and then just creatively lie with an air of legitimacy. The problem with this is that since the overwhelming majority of people haven't played the game, it is extremely difficult to know better and call them out for it. Basically, right now is a trolling sweet spot; as there's enough info about the game out + beta + leaked copies, for many people to go hog wild with nonsense claims that the majority cannot rebut.

2.) The series is now bigger than it ever has been in terms of popularity and exposure, and this means that many more people are going to play this game or be interested in it than there was with the previous two games. With so many more people playing the game, it's only logical that there is going to be a higher percentage of people whose palate isn't well suited to the game. Furthermore, people that are annoyed, angry, or unhappy, are more likely to complain about things; for example, anyone that gets a game console that bricks within a week from Amazon is far more likely to post a 1 star review of the product than a happy customer with a working console is to post a 5 star review. This skews the reviews in the sense that there will be a higher ratio of negative reviews, giving the false impression that the product is overall bad.

3.) This game is GOING to suffer from "sequelitis". Sequelitis is what people that have nostalgia goggles on, or who aren't being objective or reasonableabout a sequel to something they love, suffer from. I can vividly recall how when Dark Souls first came out, there was a ton of whining about a bunch of stuff that essentially boiled down to "QQ this isn't Demon's Souls 2.0 omgz"; the same is going to happen here. There are going to be people so in love with Dark Souls, that they just cannot accept any departure from aspects of that game in this one. Whether it be art direction, difficulty, music, aspects of combat, you name it. Many of these people suffer from the next problem...

4.) There is an intellectual disease out there that infects an unfortunate amount of people, and the symptom is a chronic inability to differentiate between something that is objective and something that is subjective. This most often manifests itself in the classic "it's my opinion and you can't tell me I'm wrong, because I'm entitled to my opinion bro" defense, even if they're commenting on something that is a matter of fact and is not open to subjective opinions. Another facet to this is that oftentimes these same people like to try to pass their opinion off as if it's fact, or that their opinion somehow has some sort of authority or weight behind it (such as the "I've put 3k hours into Dark Souls, I'm hardcore, listen to my words" sorts of people) that elevates it above a "normal opinion". Sometimes these people can be very eloquent in their verbal gymnastics, giving an air of validity to their nonsense, so one must be careful when taking peoples complaints into consideration. So far, many of the complaints I've seen about this game have fallen under this category.

5.) I've also noticed that many of these complaint threads are essentially people that are blindly playing what is likely to be a rather long and complex game, for a handful of hours, and assuming that what they've experienced thus far is how the game is going to be the whole way through for everyone. Things like "omg I'm 3 hours in and my character moves/rolls/attacks so slowly!!! THE COMBAT IN THIS GAME IS RUINED COMPARED TO DS1, WOE, LAMENT!!!!". Or "I'm two hours in, and there was a couple of random boulders that had bad textures! This game has terribad graphics!". While they might have a legitimate point relative to the point in time they're playing the game, or with a certain build, location, etc, one should not take it as absolute fact that extends to all related areas for the whole game.

6.) Lastly, people need to keep in mind that even if many of these complaints and claims of flaws are indeed true, there are always patches! I don't remember if Demon's Souls had any patches, but we all know Dark Souls was patched a few times, and also got a mini expansion DLC. With this game being so much more high profile than the past two games, and both From and Bamco having more invested into it, and also more money to work with compared to when DeS and DaS1 came out, it is only reasonable to assume that if there are legit issues in this game, that they are highly likely to be fixed; I'd argue even more likely to be fixed, and possibly even faster, than issues in Dark Souls were. Basically if there is a problem, don't let it break your excitement, causing you to write off the game, as it's likely the problems will be rectified.

I could go on, but I think you all get the point. Basically, just chill out, take the whining and criticisms with a grain of salt, and either wait till a bunch of professional reviews are out, and use them to help you make up your mind about whether or not to buy the game, or if you have it pre-ordered, just ignore these types of people/threads and make up your own mind about the game when you get it. The souls games are only ever fully understood after at least 2-3 playthroughs, it takes that long for their full scope and impact to sink in, and the complaining of a few anonymous people on the internet about minutiae in a game that isn't out yet that they claim they have, should not be making anyone nervous, or tempted to cancel their pre-order. At the same time, people don't need to jump all over these individuals and spawn a bunch of 15 page long threads full of "casulol" and other nonsense, because not only is feeding trolls bad and counter productive, it's also obnoxious and reeks of blind fanboyism, which is just as bad or worse than trolling.

We're all excited for this game, so lets just all chill for two more days and then we can all learn the truth. :)

Either the glass is Half-empty OR Half full.......Either way you won't be going THIRSTY !!! period !! ;)

They did. There are numerous comparison videos. The intial demo area was completely watered down in the final game. People who bought on PC were rightly dissappointed as the game's forest was not what was advertised. PS360 was expected to be simple, but they downgraded affected PC too.
