Tyler
has anyone used the soul vessel yet? how does it work? Take it back to the firekeepers at Things Betwixt. One of them will allow you to respec. Basically you keep your current soul level but you can redistribute the stats as you see fit.

Instead of blocking his attacks with a shield, try dodging. Use flash sweat pyro (or orange burrs) and equip fire quartz ring before fight. Also, weakness - lightning
Aftrunner
Ty, you werent kidding. The disc version is not very good. There is like a 1-2 second delay from the point when you press the Start button and when the menu opens. Its actually frustrating because some times, I will stab the start button, see nothing happen, then stab it again. But the delay means that the menu will open and close if I do that. Also there is a significant delay in the audio coming out when you talk to NPCs. And if you skip through the dialogue all the audio gets muted because of it. Also it definitely feels like there are frame rate drops, although that just might be me. There is also a delay when you are browsing merchant wares. Its kinda annoying. I mostly played DaS1 on the PC so dont remember if it was this bad on the PS3 but its super noticeable coming off like 500 hours of PC DaS. All this might be excusable if the game looked phenomenal or something. It doesnt. Hopefully the PC version will turn out better. Also not quite sold on the gameplay so far either. The game isnt any more or less difficult than Dark Souls 1. But it feels cheaper when you die. Mostly because you will die from artificial difficulty increment. I really dislike the (almost complete) removal of invincibility frames in dodging. It might be tied to ADP but that doesnt really make it better. In Dark Souls 1 dodging was binary. You dodged and you survived. Here it feels random. I dodge and if the stats the right and the stars align I might survive. Or I might get hit. Makes you more dependent on shields. I am guessing this was done to nerf dual wielding and buff ADP stat but it still feels like it adds randomness to the game which wasnt there. And poise seems to make no difference at all. So why bother having it in there?? Edited March 23, 2014 by Aftrunner
Tyler
The digital version has none of those issues. As for the gameplay, yes it does feel really different at first coming right off DaS1. Dodging is tied to ADP, mainly the 'distance' you cover. Also the rolling speed/distance gradually increases/decreases based on equipment weight. It's no longer decided by 'breakpoints'. You can still do a decent roll just under 70%. Now as for dodging not working as DaS1, it's mainly because enemies have excellent tracking and most will always change direction at the very last moment. This requires you to be extremely precise with timing your dodges. It feels weird and cheap at first but trust me, you will get used to it. About halfway through the game and I can safely say that I can dodge effectively. In fact I don't think some bosses can be defeated without dodging. Actually it's blocking and tanking that is nerfed. Tyler
Yeah the later areas are really quite good. I finished Shaded Woods/Doors Of Pharos/Brightstone Cove Tseldora and now I'm at Iron Keep. Pretty sure this is not the intended order of doing these levels. Probably should have done Iron Keep before taking the Shaded Woods path but oh well, it wasn't like those areas gave me a lot of trouble (except maybe Shaded Woods - goddamn invisible ghosts and magic resistant lions).

Tyler
Yeah from what I know he's a fire-based boss so I'm expecting my Flame Longsword +10 to do sh*t against him. Going to try upgrading a backup weapon. I mean I always have magic but most bosses don't always give you the luxury to cast effectively. Plus my "boss killer" (a.k.a. Flame Swathe) will be ineffective against him too. Edited March 24, 2014 by Tyler

Tyler
That's the fun part of these games - players helping players. In addition to actually playing the game, talking about it is equally fun.
The JACKAL
Saha is now end game but not before he realized that me made a collosal error in judgement. MAJOR SPOILER but reading this will save your life or perhaps lots of time and you'll thank me later for not having to suffer like me.I used up all my giant souls and now I do only 10 damage to vendrick and am forced to engage in a 20+ min battle with him. Anyway DO NOT USE YOUR GIANT SOULS!!!

About halfway through the game and I can safely say that I can dodge effectively. In fact I don't think some bosses can be defeated without dodging. Actually it's blocking and tanking that is nerfed. Maybe. But dodging really just feels incredibly inconsistent. Especially coming off a ton of DaS where its incredibly precise. Also not a fan of the player movement. Doesnt feel as solid. Feels more like Demons Souls which I always thought was a little meh. I do agree that blocking is nerfed. But only on the the small shields though because the game just hands you shitty shield after shitty shield unless you grab the Drangliec one or buy a Great shield. But once you do, thats not a problem anymore. Thats also kinda what I mean by the game raising the difficulty artificially. They throw bonfire after bonfire and all the bosses are pretty easy to just block, circle and smash. So they have to make the game harder by giving you shitty shields, less estus, no poise, shifty dodging etc. The health decreasing mechanic could have been interesting but it really goes no where. Pretty much like Demons souls where you resign to playing with 70% health and a ring constantly on. All things said its still pretty good. Just not as good as I was hoping. I am only 6-7 hours in though so maybe it gets better fast but most of my issues are mechanical and not related to where I am in the game. Anyway, at least the Netcode is good. Or the connection part. I summoned once and the summoners came right through. I laid my sign down about 6-7 times and each time got summoned within like 30 seconds.
