Oh my faith is only 5. I will use a soul vessal and try to respec. How effective is attunement in increasing casting speed? I don't want many slots as i will not be using many spells, i will only put few powerful spells for PvP. I want to know how much it will increase casting speed.

@Arpit, This is Dark Souls so one thing being better than the other is largely subjective and depends on what you prefer.

That said miracles are a mix of offensive and defensive spells whereas sorceries are largely focused on dealing damage. Both paths have some truly devastating spells (Soul Geyser, Sunlight Spear).

You also have a third path in the form of hexes (which need investment in both INT and FAI). It has powerful spells as well but may of them actually need souls to cast.

@kyo, Re: ATT & casting speed. It does make an impact as you need ATT anyway so you'll need at least 30 or more. However the biggest impact on casting speed comes from gear. Especially the Lion Mage set and the Clear Bluestone Ring +2. The ring is dropped by the Skeleton Lords on NG+ but I highly recommend doing that on NG by using an ascetic.

I really need to work on that mage build guide...

Miracles vs magic,which is better?

Didn't face many miracle users in about 25 PvP matches I played in brotherhood arenas. Only saw a few ppl using lightning spear but I think it's quite easy to dodge compared to homing missile spells. I guess magic is better for offence. Miracles have lots of defensive and healing spells.

Well yesterday i used a soul vessel just to give a try to miracles and honestly,i didn't like them.I'm the melee guy so i mostly invested in STR and DEX but i have seen many people mostly using spells to do huge amount ofdamage.I mean my best weapon was only doing damage of 250+ on the final boss and the other guy was easily doing 1000+damage with his (maybe sunlight)lightning spear <_< I guess i'll go with magic for now.So here goes my another soul vessel..... :P

Why no story speculation in this thread? Isnt that the best thing about dark souls?

Ok, lets go. I have a few questions-

The king invaded the giants to get some awesomesauce power back (Dark?) and then it consumed him(?) or his wife was so bitchy evil he went hollow and locked himself away in the Crypts?
His brother went and became a dragon with a giant (Why?) and lets me get Giant Souls that can weaken his brother (Why would he do that?).
And I get that the 4 souls are supposed to signify the previous Lord Souls.
Freja- Seath (By Paledrake souls but I see no connection b/w them)
Rotten- Nito? (Cause of all the death and corpses)
Sinner- Witch of Izalith (Her gear has pyro powers and is referred to as "She")
Old Iron King- 4 Kings (Consumed by evil power?)
Any more reasons on that?
And did you know in the mansion in Manjula near the map you can see a shattered Lord Vessel. That's why we can teleport from the start I guess. Nice of them to put that little touch in the game.

That's it. I'd be grateful for clarification.
Started a new playthough with a mage. I'm feeling good about it. Gonna go full sorcery and be a glass cannon :P

Just being able to use spells doesn't really cut it. You need to have the gear and stats to do heavy damage. I was completely specced as a caster and could take down almost all bosses with 1 or 2 casts of Soul Geyser in NG+. Maybe 3 for some (like Smelter or Vestaldt) but in general it was a cakewalk. Ancient Dragon took 5 casts. 3 of which I could manage even before he completely got aggroed.

On the PC version I have two builds going - one a STR/FAI which is a lot of fun, leaning more towards melee but lightning spears are pretty much wrecking everything in PvE and the other a quality build with which I'm going completely melee.

A miracle user is as powerful as a magic user. Yes, most of the miracles are useless healing spells. But the the rest are amazing.

Soul Geyser is much better than Sunlight Spear in PVE, you can kill bosses with 2 to 3 shots. But Sunlight spear is 10 100 times better than Souls Geyser in PVP cause even a new dark souls player can dodge Souls Geyser without any issue, but Sunlight Spear has an AOE effect. You know what happens when you try to use Souls Geyser in PVP, and the other player knows which spell you are about to use? - Backstab!

Sunlight Blade is as good as Crystal magic weapon. But you can stack Sacred oath buff with Sunlight blade. Sacred oath + Sun light blade >>>> Crystal magic weapon.

There is a miracle called great magic barrier. It boosts your magic, fire and lightning defense by 250. If you use this spell smartly, you can kick any magic user's a*s in PVP. A good defense is always a good offense.

Heard of Wrath of Gods? I don't have this miracle cause it takes a lot of time to get it in NG (150 blue sentinels PVP victories). But I know how powerful this spell is. Before the 1.03 patch it was game breaking. A player once killed me with WoG, when I had 80% of my health. Even after the latest nerf, WoG is still one of the most OP spells in the game.

Yup, it is very difficult to dodge Crystal homing souls mass. That is the most popular magic spell used in pvp.

Same here, Ancient Dragon was a piece of cake with Soul Geyser. It took me around 6 -7 casts and a few souls spears in NG.

Good to know you are enjoying Faith build. I would suggest you to complete pilgrims of Dark covenant ASAP. You get the best chime in the game - Dragon Chime from that "Seeker of Dark" guy. Sadly, you get the best Faith weapon (Defender's Greatsword) in the last boss fight. It is the MLGS for a faith build :P

Yeah, doesn't killing Grandahl also give you the Dragon Chime? I typically don't kill NPCs but I'm not sure if I want to complete the Pilgrims of the Dark quests. I'm currently a part of the Sunbros and I'm not leaving that until I get Sunlight Spear.

Yes, I think he drops Dragon Chime when you kill him. Check wiki to confirm. It was my first playthrough so completed the quests instead of killing him.

Now, I think it is better to just kill him and get the Chime if you are not a Hexer, cause there are no items in pilgrims of dark areas and the Covenant rewards are Hexes.

And yes, finish sunbros asap. Sunlight spear will be very helpful later in the game, specially in the Ancient Dragon boss fight.

Guys , I am not able to defeat the first boss . I dont mind more trying , but i have exhausted 2.5 hour dying infinite times . The frustrating part is when you go very far , killing enemies cautiously and carefully but end up dying during boss batle, game start again from bonfire with all enemy spawning back. Need some tips.

I don't think the sprint from the bonfire is very far to the Pursuer. Which route are you using?

Try summoning some people to help you. One can tank him while the others magic him. Or you could just keep your shield up and poke him when his guard is down, which is immediately after his forward sprint or his jumping downward attack.

And remember that a lot of his attacks are better rolled than blocked. It gives you a lot more time to attack him.

Or you could go for the super uber mega pro way-

Parry him in the way of the giant crossbow and run back and shoot it.

How is Pursuer your first boss fight? That's not possible.

You can't enter the Pursuer boss fight room without killing the last giant.

The Pursuer is a tough fight early in the game and especially for a new player. He can be skipped for now. Go do Heide's Tower first and level up / gear up a bit.

Also like others have mentioned, the run up to the Pursuer is actually pretty easy from the Cardinal Tower bonfire. Once you go down the ladder there's literally only 4 hollow soldiers in the way. You can run past them. If you really want to fight him now, use an effigy to become human and summon help at the boss door. A lot of people lay down their signs near the Pursuer.
