Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

When I left the debut gameplay demo of Ground Zeroes, one thought looped in my mind: This is an exceptional Splinter Cell sequel.
Kojima wants Phantom Pain to appear to “a global audience,” and the new form and function appear more accessible than Guns of the Patriots’ westernized yet still hardcore systems.
Boss sprints, slides, climbs, and tags enemies like Sam Fisher has since 2009’s Splinter Cell: Conviction. Aggression takes precedence over delicacy, but still plays an important role in slithering through shadows. He’ll hurl enemies from ledges too, but nothing feels more foreign in Ground Zeroes -- and by association, the whole of Metal Gear Solid V -- than the slow-motion executions.
Before a guard enters an alert state, you’ll get a button prompt indicating you’re busted. Hold the left trigger, and you’ll briefly freeze time, giving you the opportunity to pump a couple quiet bullets into an alarmed enemy’s eyeballs. It’s an elegant means of avoiding detection that comes with a Mark and Execute sense of style, but I’m terrified this neuters the importance of evasion.
What caught me off guard most, and what really cemented Metal Gear Solid as something that’s forever different, was regenerating health. Hardcore fans are used to tactical ration recovery, and cherishing the limited boost each food packet imparts on their HP bars. Fleeing from a loud fight -- which appears to rely heavily on lock-on aiming -- brings color back to the screen, indicating a new lease on life.

Collective info from all sites:

Bad stuff:

  • When Big Boss gets spotted by an enemy, the game will go into a slow motion, during which the player can still silence the enemy, and the alert phase will be canceled. This was done to help players in compensation for the extra difficulty posed by an open world design, and the lack of a radar.
  • Don’t worry, the famous alert sound is still there. The exclamation mark seems to be gone though.
  • The demo being played was very similar to the one at PAX, but this time players had to retrieve a red FOXHOUND patch (the logo of the new LA studio). Also, the demo was in English, with Big Boss voiced by Kiefer Sutherland. He also spoke the famous line ‘Kept you waiting, huh’.
  • The game will feature less cutscenes and smoother transitions between them and gameplay.
  • The life bar seems to be gone. In stead, the screen will turn bloody and red when Snake gets hurt, and he will regenerate health automatically if he takes cover long enough (this feature was also in previous Metal Gear games, if Snake kneeled or took a prone position).

GOOD STUFF:

  • During driving sequences, the player can switch between first and third person view.
  • Enemies can take out tires of vehicles Snake is driving.
  • The holographic gear Snake used in the demo is called the iDroid.
  • Snake can use searchlights and gun mounted flash lights to blind and distract enemies.
  • Snake can still throw empty gun magazines to distract enemies.
  • During interrogation, the player can choose between multiple lines for questioning.
  • According to Kojima, MGSV is not being ‘westernized’. He simply tries to give the game a global appeal, just like he did with the original Metal Gear Solid. The Kojima Productions LA studio is not involved in the game’s story, only in the multiplayer.
  • There’s a reason Quiet looks the way she looks.

Quiet

This is not how you promote cosplay or figurine sales, that female character looks disgusting for a army girl, i get there is a desert setting but she could take cues from Lara about fashion, cosplayers might feel uncomfortable with such cosplay & i would never buy such a weird figurine, there is only one way he can save the character by adding some relevant backstory to that costume which will impact the game, hope he does otherwise it's one gaming fail to remember, frankly it just might give game haters some solid stuff to criticize gaming :(

Read my above post where I have written bullet points. See the last bold point.

Looks amazing..

Compared to GZ reveal , GDC reveal , heck even the VGA mindf**k ( all which were supposed to be running on PC's with hardware close to current gen ) - this is just plain embarassing. They're showing actual nextgen footage 12 days from now. That'll no doubt be upto standards. This is the primary reason why mostly 1st party studios excel at making visually impressive titles at the end of a console lifecycle.

Also , I firmly believed that they'll go PS4Bone only ( if not PC later ) given KojiPro's traditional development woes , and sooo much belief now that it's not happening here. Peace Walker hurt them bad , REALLY BAD when it should have been current gen. Konami's calling the shots with no one in their line of sight this time around. Sucks to be in his & the team's shoes tbh -___-

Also , i'd be very surprised if this ends up being June / November 2014.

i dont understand why he had to fly all the way to LA and then show current gen footage when they're showing the next gen one at tgs. they could've done a closed doors one's and shown the nextgen footage it they wanted to keep it under wraps.

i think at konami fy meeting they said TPP not coming in 2014 but another game is . most likely its going to be the pilot episode of TPP aka ground zeroes.

You think the nextgen official footage is gonna be better than what we've seen already ? I dunno , I'm just calming myself down and expecting the worst to be somewhat surprised , at least content. All we could guess now at the end they might call the quality of that 60 FPS ( non-Red Band version ) E3 trailer which was out later , being called nextgen , getting TGS 05 vs retail of Metal Gear 4 vibes all over again. :|

This episodic thing being unclear till now is so bad messaging across and almost M$ level PR. Konami saying this while I clearly remember one of the early KP Alert pods they said that both these would be one retail game , to be specific that MGO 3 reveal & being dveloped at the LA studio pod. Konami has rather shown some serious interest in this episodic business model lately. But testing it with a major AAA franchise is a BAD idea. Personally , I still think it's gonna be both on disc ( remember the confusion of MGO2 being on a separate disc thing during the beta ). But if it isn't actual digital disty like PSN / XBL , it'll bomb hard if they up this with one of their releases , like ZOE coming with Sons of Liberty , only GZ being the full episode here.

It was the opening ceremony for kojima production LA studio who are making MGS 5 multiplayer, maybe he wanted to show how the game will look on current gen

i highly double Ground zeroes will be separate game, he confirmed ground zeroes is a prologue, it will happen during night time while raining and the map will be linear when compared to TPP,
