THQ files for bankruptcy

It is not. Most of the MMOs are open world with players encountering other players and interacting, also they are skill based. WWE or any pro wrestling game wont work in this way. People will not want to grind themselves for months to unlock finishers or moves and open world is out of question. Anyone when starts a WWE game, always wants to try out finishers. No one will want to wait for moves to unlock by grinding. The only MP part good for WWE games is community creations. That is just brilliant. Create and share superstars, arenas, stories, movesets etc.

Another region where MP has significantly affected WWE games is Create a Move. That feature could have been awesome, but they had to restrict it because it could create some horribly unbalanced moves for MP (Choke of Doom ruined MP for WWE 2009 IIRC, they removed it later)

WWE spin off games can be good MP fighters if fighting is done right, like WWE All Stars. It had fair bit of challenge and some combat depth. Current WWE online matches are full of players spamming running grapples and almost everyone has CAWs set at 100 with RKOs and Stunners as their normal moves. I got sick of playing online till WWE 11 because of such jokers online.

you have some points. Being an MMO will be easier for the developer to give periodic updates with new contents like -characters, events, tie in events with ongoing real schedule. They have to figure out the fighting mechanics first, how to work in the online player vs player environment. Rest can be like current games - most of the normal moves and characters will be unlock from day one, player have to upgrade each move depending his choice which may further add some RPG like character development. These are my ideas and kind of pipe dreams.

  • 2 weeks later...

Still its better, if Ubisoft get it, they will make WWE 14 a quarterly game ph34r2.gif

they can't beat activision on this - and activision's annual craparolla still makes money like anything. But I think its THQ who started the anulization of games with WWE series.

I think the yearly WWE games still had significant improvements than it's predecessor...... I would say it was probably the FIFA franchise that released every year with little-to-no improvements.... Yes, I am still a FIFA fanboy.... <_<

Releasing a new WWE game a year was part of the deal with WWE. WWE wants a new WWE game each year. Heck fans want a WWE game each year. The roster changes each year, even the attires change and sometimes entrance music also changes. People simulate WWE in their games, so it is fair to expect a game per year. Or give DLCs to make up outdated roster.

Those can all be easily patched in.

Saints Row 4

THQ’s financial hardships have been heavily documented for the last two years. Amidst all this negative press, Volition has been hard at work on the next installment in the popular Saints Row franchise. Whether or not the game releases this year, depends solely on what happens to the IP during the title auction on January 22nd. The buyer could launch the game as soon as this fall depending on how far along the development team are or wait until 2014. Either way, I predict that we will learn more about the game later this year.
