Yeah it's like that.

Link to Fumito Ueda Interview

Eurogamer: I understand you can't control Torico directly, but you take advantage of the animal's characteristics to interact with the environment. Can you give us an example of how this works?

Fumito Ueda: For example, if you have access to one of Torico's favourite foods or objects, you can throw it to a place where you wouldn't be able to go in normal circumstances.

Eurogamer: So let's say I throw the food to a ledge across a big gap - I can then jump onto Torico and the animal will take me across?

Fumito Ueda: Exactly.

The Last Guardian to get simultaneous Euro, Japan release

The man behind ICO and The Shadow of the Colussus has confirmed that The Last Guardian will be arriving in Japan and Europe at the same time.

Speaking to Eurogamer Fumito Ueda confirmed plans to release The Last Guardian simultaneously in both territories.

The revelation means that UK and European gamers won’t have to twiddle their thumbs in envy while the Japanese are busy playing Fumito Ueda’s latest work.

Ever since the game’s first trailer leaked just before E3 it’s become one of the most pant wettingly (we made that word up) anticipated titles due to arrive on the PS3.

Ueda earlier said in an interview (see below) that The Last Guardian will introduce a new level of realism with plenty of surprises.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I don't remember reading anything about confirmed simultaneous releases in that interview! I REPEAT: Don't believe everything you read, especially when the source is dodgy. And don't quote them either.

I'm not going to re-read the whole interview, but the most he'd have said (from what I remember) is that he'd 'LIKE' to do a simultaneous release.

- cant or wont say whether the boy or the creature is the last guardian. left it to players interpretation.

- creature's tail is a major element of the game, wont say more.

- says he used o watch dvd's in a language he wouldn't understand, considers it as an purer form of enjoyment.

- was interested in network play before SOTC released, not interested in it anymore.

- little disappointed about the framerate in SOTC, says he had to choose between art or frames and he doesnt regret his decision

- First colossus is his favorite

- not happy with existing technology, says PS3 is a big improvement, but the things he wants to do has also proportionally increased. although he does enjoy working with some limitations

- No plans for motion controller, but is interested

- last guardian wont be related to the previous games in anyway (yeah right)

Well , actually this is so true. For example , I prefer the original japi audio of an anime over a crappy english dub anyday because of watching in the purest form of it.

FFS thanks a LOT Ueda!

He actually refers to the main story I guess , which has absolutely no connection , not the platforming elements/gameplay.

I think I remember watching a video (before they official confirmed SotC) years ago that showed many people working together to take down a colossus. Wonder if they were testing some sort of MP component with that one or was it just an early SP build that they canceled.

Dont think anyone does.

:fear: Heresy. The flying ones were the best of the game.

LOL I used to do that, put on a regional (non hindi, non english channel) that was showing some really old B&W movie and just sort of zone out. It was more like meditation though. :sign_omg:

Interesting tidbits about The Last Guardian

Here are some info snippets about The Last Guardian taken from interviews with the Japanese press:

The music used for the trailers will not appear in the game.

Three different fonts are used in the Japanese logo of the game. This mixing of typefaces was done to mimic the mismatching look of Toriko and to reflect the many gameplay aspects of the game.

The team is not yet ready to disclose how much progress they've made on the game even though the game has been at a playable stage for quite some time.

The game world is filled with air, so animals like birds affect the objects around them. For example, if a bird flies to a tree the leaves will move about because the air around them is affected.

The choice to have a young child as the protagonist, instead of an older chap, was done because the pairing with the creature reflects one of the central themes of the game - companionship. The team considered choosing a female lead but the idea was dropped due to the particular requirements of level design.

The graphical fidelity of the game world's environments is quite realistic but effort was made to make scenery look surreal, as if in a fantasy world.

When talking about the creature's design, Ueda is most fond of Toriko's face.

Everything is being hand-animated, just like in Shadow of the Colossus. There is no motion capture. This is because there are numerous subtle movements that are not possible to capture using motion capture techniques. Animations are filtered out using a special program first used when working on Shadow of the Colossus. Every little unnatural looking animation is eliminated and replaced with a better looking one.

Ueda says the team tried to cater for the Western market along with Japanese tastes from the very first day. This is because ICO and Shadow of the Colossus were welcomed very warmly in Europe and America.

The change of title (The man devouring giant eagle Toriko to The Last Guardian) was made to cater for both markets. The Western title is more direct, can be translated freely in many different languages and describes the game fully. The Japanese title on the other hand is more ambiguous, and evokes a feeling of uneasiness - that there's something quite mysterious about this giant creature.

Ueda wants to release the game as soon as humanly possible but he wants the game to be complete, without having to discard elements that wouldn't make it in due to time constraints. That said he knows fans have waited for a very long time and he says it's not that far into the future as we may think.

from today's famitsu via gaf

- The game uses gameplay elements from ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, like climbing, grabbing, etc...

- The team is paying great attention to make Toriko's movements look smooth and the levels look as natural as possible.

- Ueda was very surprised at how the world, especially the West, reacted to the game's reveal at E3. He's very happy about the positive reaction.

- Because of this the team is feeling greater pressure than ever before.

- They're really trying to make Toriko look real and alive. That's where the team is focusing their efforts.

- The animations of the characters are tied to the physics engine. They're really trying to make movements look natural.

- The new physics engine has improved how the characters connect with each other.

- New information could come at E3 or TGS or any point during the year, it hasn't been decided yet.

- The game will be different and fun.
