THQ dissolved: Studios and IP sold to Sega, Ubisoft, Koch, Crytek, Take Two

it's sad to see any decent company dissolve. that being said i don't have any affinity towards THQ IP's. saints row was dumb fun but immensely forgettable. i played COH a good while back so don't remember much. metro was thick with atmosphere. i love Russian(east European in general) movies and their games seem to carry that similar vibe. so it's good to see them find a home. love obsidian... so good that south park is safe. that company can't seem to catch a break. probably the most tortured game studio. i never got to play darksiders so can't comment . always heard mixed things about the games. but the team seemed to have a lot of talent atleast by the look of their games. hope those guys/gals land on their feet soon. this industry is quite fickle it seems.

I grew up playing WWE on my old PS2, Saint's Row 2 (crazy monkey shaking screen) on my old PC, Darksiders..etc..

I cannot see how this is good..Ubisoft will shut down South Park, Volition is going to die soon..Dead Island Riptide looks really bad.

(check gameplay reveal video-yesterday..Dead Island polished)

Hope Take Two does something good with WWE.

Good bye THQ, thanks for wonderful journey. :majesty:/>

Ubisoft wont shutdown SP cause they paid a chunk of money for a game thats almost finished. Shutting it down would be like burning that pile of case. Unless you mean shutting down Obsidian which Ubisoft cant do anything about. They didnt buy Obsidian.

Dead Island's gameplay quality has nothing to do with KM, they arent the developer. The fact that they paid 20+ Million for it means they are dead serious about the IP. Which is a good thing.

And getting WWE away from THQ/Yukes can only be a good thing. A break from the 1 year dev cycle might actually do the series some good so it can return fresh with some new ideas. The main series games have been getting kinda stale.

SR and Metro are going to be developed by Deep Silver itself.

I can't see anyone other than 4A Games developing Metro.

Same here.

But Deep Silver is not a Developer and they just own the publishing rights for the METRO titles so I do not see 4A Games going anywhere, the game IP is still in their hands (as far as development is concerned).

At-least this is how I see the equation OR I am missing something.

Or was it techland? Now I'm confused:/

Google is your friend and Wikipedia is my God so refer --> Dead Island @Wikipedia.

It is a TechLand production.

Are you saying that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky was done by Deep Silver?

Platinum games should go for it , but too bad they might be low on funds :( . They have been on a role with titles like Bayo,Vanquish,AR,MGR. Buy Vigil games and get a USA studio ... PG US :P . Darksiders IP is perfect for em

Posting from my phone. Not a fan of researching info using the phone browser :/

At-least keep your Publishers and Developers segregated.

You confused a nice bunch of us. Anyway have provided the appropriate details in my prior post and here it is again.

Techland developed Dead Island (DEVELOPER's) and Deep Silver own the publishing rights for the same and hence are the PUBLISHER.

As someone commented somewhere on the internet:

"PLATINUM IS NO PLACE FOR A HORSE"

Wel Deep Silver were fine with publishing a fairly unfinished game in Dead Island. Not too confident about them publishing Metro and Saints Row. For all we know they could've forced techland to meet unrealistic deadlines.

Still better than ACTIVISION OR EA getting their grubby paws on this one and turning it into Call of BattleField Tunnel shooter edition OR shafting the IP and asking the studios to do the HUD elements for CoD / BattleField.

And Deep Silver has a lot more experience than just Dead Island, it published the following titles --

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (ironically another ThQ sparked initiative)
  • Gothic 3
  • Risen SAGA
  • Warhammer Mark of Chaos (with Namco)

I think it is a balanced call on part of the Developer and Publisher when to release a game OR not.
