HotSonix
I am come to a conclusion in buying a brand drive from sea-gate here are my two choices 1.Seagate Expansion Falcun USB 3.0 500 GB External Hard Disk 2.Seagate Backup Plus 500 GB External Hard Disk Anybody has any idea which one will be better?? Bird Bird Bird
Screw Seagate, get a Transcend StoreJet M3. Good, rugged external HDD. My Seagate shat brix after falling down from a height of hardly 20 cms (and the drive wasn't even running :|).
Razpor
^cant really agree with that ,i have a seagatte 1 tb extetnal hdd for about 2 years now,it has fallen countless times and still works flawless.
NitroNeo
IMO go for WD , my 3day old newly purchased 1TB WD Essentials drive was giving me slow speed , so i called WD , they took my drive from my home & gave me a brand new replacement within a week & though these days the one with max warranty is a good choice
ALPHA17
Get this one --> Transcend StoreJet 25M3 500GB. It should be available cheaper on street than on flipkart OR homeshop18.

I have a wd 1tb bro so trying something different No trolling, dependent on the city the service is actually flaky compared to Seagate OR Western Digital but the consolation is that I have never seen a Transcend drive fail (personally own one) while in my college I have seen Seagate and Western Digital pieces conking out very fast and the replacements even more often. Rest is upto you, if you are not buying the hard-drive based on this then you can go for whichever Seagate drive you want. Cheerio!

Have owned a Transcend M2 320 GB and an M3 1TB. Speeds are equal to other ext. HDDs and the rugged exterior is godsend.

ALPHA17
Rugged drive? Ha. Try beating this one. ADATA was inspired by the Transcend drive. And in retrospect as I have mentioned Transcend has a poor network in the country ADATA has its distribution network is handled by these guys, who don't even mention it on the landing page. thedarkrider
I myself own a seagate goflex 1tb and a transcend 500gb...IMHO transcend is in fact a little better in ruggedness than seagate...and the data transfer speed is more or less the same...i am sometimes facing disconnection with my goflex.. NitroNeo
@ achilles , After the tests they don't show if it's actually detecting on the computer , did it really work
The GOAT Valentino Rossi46
Buy Western Digital. They are very reliable. Or even Maxtor is better! I have 2TB (more than a year now) and 500GB (more than 2 years) and never had any issues.
ALPHA17
Or even Maxtor is better! It has been seven years since Maxtor was taken over by Seagate. Maxtor @Wikipedia I have a Maxtor Diamond Plus 80GB IDE drive on my old RIG since ~2003 -->04, works like a charm.
achilles
@ achilles , After the tests they don't show if it's actually detecting on the computer , did it really work Oh it works baby. It works. And LOL @ people in this thread, discussing different brands that sell a hard drive and treating them differently based on prior experience. It's a moving part and pretty much every brand sells the same thing. It is purely usage and luck which determine the life of a hard drive. So, get over it. Buy the capacity you want a the cheapest price and let warranty do the rest.

Transcend used SAMSUNG drives till last I checked, now that the latter has been taken over by Seagate I do not know who is the OEM for Transcend but suffice to say that SAMSUNG drives were much better compared to their competitor drives from Seagate and Western Digital, in reliability, performance and sound profiling. The GOAT Valentino Rossi46
sorry, I didnot know that. . I used Maxtor 320GB desktop HDD, I think it was in 2006 or 2007. My brother have it now and still works great!
