Can you name five Skyrim characters from memory?

The Witcher 3 game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz can't. His point was that Skyrim - theopen world RPG to beat - was often generic, both in terms of its story and the quests it used to pad out the world.

He doesn't want The Witcher 3 to have those weaknesses. He believes that by applying the tighter storytelling skills of the first two Witcher games, the now open world Witcher 3 "will be [the] perfect RPG".

"The lessons we learned from Skyrim is that you need to care about immersion in the game all of the time," Konrad Tomaszkiewicz told GameInformer.

"You can't show that you've got some generic solutions or engineering stuff in the game. And Skyrim, it was generic; you could make the same quest a few times and every time [the] NPC didn't spot that you made it for him previously. To make this immersion every quest needs to be designed this way that NPC reacts for what you are doing.

"The second thing, thinking about Skyrim, is that they don't got very good characters," he added. "I tried to remember five characters from Skyrim and name them from my memory, and I can't, because this storyline is very generic and exploring the world is cool but they missed it."

The critique was delivered in an I'm-thinking-out-loud manner. The words look harsh printed, but Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and his brother (lead quest designer) Mateus - and the entire studio, by the sounds of it - regard Skyrim highly. "For sure we need to learn from them how to make an open world," acknowledged Konrad Tomaszkiewicz.

"But when we combine it with our knowledge from the previous games it will be perfect RPG."

The Tomaszkiewicz brothers also mentioned games like Fallout: New Vegas and Assassin's Creed 3 while discussing The Witcher 3 being open world. "Everyone likes open world games," shrugged Konrad Tomaszkiewicz.

The Witcher 3 is due next year on PC and "all high-end platforms", which presumably means at least the next Xbox and maybe also PlayStation 4 (CD Projekt Red hasn't developed for a Sony machine before).

The studio's Red engine has evolved to handle an open world (and new machinery), and Mateus said the team had already implemented a large part of the game.

A separate team housed at CD Projekt Red will share that tech to build open world sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077.

Maiq The Liar

Lydia

Serena

Ulfric Stormcloak

Onumund

Mjoll The Lioness

Apart from Maiq the Liar who is like an inside joke by Bethesda, none of the characters have a sense of importance in the world.

For all that matters you can eliminate them and still the game world will continue without batting an eyelid OR pausing for breath.

You are either being a tro11 OR are naive to the core.

Arey iam just giving 5 names..I never said that these characters are memorable or important to the story of Skyrim :P

ES games never had great story or characters..ES games are weak in combat and story department....For me it's all about freedom open world and exploration...You choose your own path and create your own story.....Game never forces you to play main story.... :D I never cared about main story in any of the past ES games.....

.I hope ES6 or Fallout 4 will have better story...

ULTRA-MEGA PHAN-BOI POST Alert

We Are Rebels: The Business Of The Witcher And CD PROJEKT RED

Based in Warsaw, Poland, CD Projekt Red has quietly become one of the most beloved studios in the gaming industry. The game development studio is housed under the larger CD Projekt company that also distributes Disney films in Poland and runs GOG.com. Based on the Polish novels, the Witcher license has given CD Projekt Red an opportunity to create mature RPGs that have garnered high critical praise and a devoted fanbase. Partnering with publishers like Atari and Warner Bros. in the past only to help distribute their games across the world, the studio puts a strong emphasis on creative independence.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt confirmed for PlayStation 4 in 2014

CD Projekt Red has confirmed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PlayStation 4 in 2014.The Polish developer said the open world role-playing game will launch simultaneously on all high end consoles, guaranteeing release on the next Xbox. "We were thrilled when asked, several months ago, to be one of the developers who were granted early access to the PlayStation 4," said studio boss Adam Badowski. "It was an exciting moment to be invited to be in the company of other legendary developers like Bethesda, EA, LucasArts, Ubisoft or Activision as one of the teams working on titles shipping early in the PlayStation 4's lifecycle.

"Of course, we couldn't reveal any specifics about this to our fans, even though many journalists and forum members asked about when and how The Witcher might show up on Sony's console. After yesterday's PlayStation Meeting we can finally promise: The Witcher 3 is coming to the PlayStation 4. "The new hardware gives us the opportunity to create something great. We are able to work with the new console from its birth and this allows our in-house REDengine 3 to push the graphical limits of what the PlayStation hardware can display. The console is fresh and has some innovative solutions that we're looking forward to using in our game."

Monster Hunting In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Monster hunting in the Wild Hunt will be a mix of the new and old styles of the prequel saga. Trying to mix and match the best of the both worlds, game-play designers and story editors plan to get the randomised encounters and Geralt's keen Witcher senses at par in this latest iteration.

Don't forget to check out the video at the Source, given at the bottom.

As the protagonist of The Witcher series, one of Geralt of Rivia's defining characteristics is also his profession: monster hunting. While the team at CD Projekt RED touch on this mechanic in past entries, tracking and killing creatures for a bounty is one of the pillars of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Awesome. Everybody wins. PC gamers, console gamers and CD Projekt.
