ALPHA17
^ Yes, the first one was tied into the actual story while being presented as a side-show. The second one, not so much but I was happy that in both cases there was more than meets the eye.

ALPHA17
Interesting article after that recent 'gameplay' trailer, Will 'The Witcher 3' suffer from Assassin's Creed Syndrome As much as I like the idea of open-world video games, they’re so often aimless, tedious affairs stuffed with filler that soon overshadows the narrative, mucking up the pacing in the process. Let’s call this Assassin’s Creed Syndrome, or ACS for short. Which makes me worry that the game will suffer from ACS. Maybe CDP RED can pull off an open-world quasi-theme-park RPG without making it feel bogged down and over-saturated with side content. But I’m worried that the narrative poignancy of the last game will be lost in an abundance of fluff. Even The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings suffered from some pacing problems thanks to some less-than-stellar side quests. Fortunately, these were the exception to the rule. By and large that game did a marvelous job at interweaving story, action, and RPG elements. Source: Forbes
maxus
lets just hope cdpr do what they did with previous games regarding story and narration.
ALPHA17
^ That they are anyway trying but now the game setting and premise itself has expanded to the level of 'EPIC'. So it would be an interesting balancing act.
Ne0
^^ I think this is by far the most hyped game in the series, there was hardly any hype for the first game, second one had better marketing, but not the kind if hype this has generated .... can't wait for the release.... combat alone will keep me hooked for a long time.... You do realise not being hyped was the main hooks of these games. The first title (and even second title) is still not played by a lot of people simply because, combat is bad I do not have a PC game is too confusing (yes I have been told the same in this forum as well) So whoever got around to finishing the game(s), enjoyed it. And certainly none of the prior titles had the whole 'EPIC' trope being played out which is being drummed up this time around. I mean, yes your choice (in-game Geralt's) does meaningfully impact the world but it was never presented as such. It was always a choice of immediate relevance. At least till now that is what its looking like. I hope I wont be disappointed
maxus
^^ witcher 1 took me by surprise as i had never experienced such rich and realistic approach to a fantasy game..witcher 2 was short and finished abruptly.and was densely packed with politics. it was good but did not have witcher feel so much... cdpr has a lot of pressure this time around and even if they miss by a fraction they will be badly criticised.. they hav such a hype around them this time that is more like india vs pakistan cricket match. it will be really great challenge to provide the same tight and well narrated story with rich and realistic open world... lets see how they pull it off.. the funny thing is that first game was underrated and this one seems overhyped!!!
