Anyways @alpha

How is the difficulty in witcher 2 as compared to witcher 1? I heard that witcher 2 is much more difficult as compared to the first part. I am gonna start the second part soon.

Easier to play although certain problems have manifested because of fundamental changes. You can no longer drink potions in the middle of a fight and the duration of the effects is also low. So save often and drink potion(s) when you feel there is a need.

Apart from tthat combat has been simplified, two button process with a blocking stance (hold E), much simpler to throw darts / daggers and bombs and use the different Signs.

Overall a step in the right direction as far as the combat is concerned.

Story writing is simplified though and you might not see the long and over-arcing quest lines like the original. Hopefully the next title will bring it back.

Is there any way I can follow the witcher story without going through the games so far

Nope, reading the three books and going through the Wiki is one thing but it is like saying I will pick up the entire Metal Gear story-line if I play Ground Zeroes now.

When and where ?

It was the Premium Edition for PC, released first in 2011. Initial price was ~2700/- before it was slashed to ~1500/-.

There was a re-issue of the Enhanced Edition in 2012, both times the game sold out.

At what price were the last two witcher games launched in India for?

Witcher 3 is in my to-buy list and PC is my opted platform

Original Witcher was retailed for ~1500/- (in a proper box).

The follow up title's Premium Edition retailed for ~1500/-.

I expect the next Premium Edition to list for ~1800/- -->2500/-, looking at the $ value and the amount of AWESOME we will get in the physical copy.

I remember trying to play Witcher 2 and hated the gameplay.. it was just bad.. weird actually. Not intuitive. Not even as good as Skyrim (is what I felt). IIRC there is no block button in Witcher 2' s gameplay right? Just roll..

(I know you dont play it for the gameplay yada yada yada)

And here i thought witcher 1 was bad. should i just skip the download for witcher2? I'm sure the story is good but absolutely hated the gameplay/combat on witcher 1 :(

(it's bigger than that, but it should do for starters)

I can live with that.

Have you played any basic hack and slash title?

Imagine a combat system like that with executions cut out and lack of chain combos.

I still hold the opinion that if one plays the original and the follow up, they note the change. Comparing it to SKYRIM is just insulting.

Bro, do you even combat?

Which copy of the game you picked up, Enhanced Edition has tutorial. Something which the original lacked.

I tried it on a friend's PC.. dont remember which version he had. And yes I was talking about combat only ... in skyrim its atleast intuitive if not deep.

I just found myself lost in this game. Felt cheap with the amount of enemies I was fighting and IIRC the 'parry' and 'block' which i consider the most important thing in such a game was missing or was limited.. dont remember exactly what it was but there was a problem with blocking and all you had to do was roll-attack-roll-attack. Felt cheap and more like a headache than fun. I dont mind a challenge but it wasnt actually a challege per say- more like 'this is how it plays, deal with it'. Skyrim is no genius I must add. Thats not what I meant..

I must add, I havent given the game a fair shot so I might be totally wrong but I'm just saying what I felt from the one long session I had with the game.

There is block and parry in W2. Its a bit like assassins creed 1 block and parry, that's pretty cool also. excpet in W2 Parrys are not unlimited.

THIS. I dont remember exactly but there was something off about parry & blocking... and with so many enemies at once.. combat felt cumbersome and irrational. I think even the 'block timing' or 'hint' you get that tells you when to press the block button to block an enemy attack was not clear enough or intuitive.

Again, not trying to bash the game or anything.. am very much interested in W3, but just stating what I felt was off with the series the one or two times I played it.

They are improving the combat system in The Witcher 3.. might be taking inspiration from Batman Arkham Asylum.

"We're definitely looking at a more fluid combat system with Wild Hunt, where attacking an enemy feels more natural and smooth, unlike older games where you had to lock onto enemies constantly. What we saw in Batman: Arkham Asylum is a very cool system, and I don't want to draw any comparisons, but that's definitely part of the motivation for us." - CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwinski

What level were you on?

It definitely better than SKYRIM which has the most banal combat system that it carries over from God knows which era.

Blocks and Parries are meant to be finite, turtle tactics do not help.

There is no block timing, you only have to parry on time and it is a very easy thing to do.

You need to put a lot more time into the game.

Try it again, it is not at all a difficult game. You may find it difficult in initial stages only. In fact skyrim is more difficult at higher difficulty setting imo, esp at lower levels.

Block works fine, just hold E to block like u hold right mouse button in skyrim. Here you wouldn't have a shield but block with sword, basically like assassins creed. Also its not unfare at all, you roll without depleting stamina. That itself makes the game a lot easier. Signs(magic in game) are pretty powerful also, use them often.

Just to aid you in parry they show hints. Actually parry is not as useful as it is in dark souls so won't be a prob. Also they are limited.

Easy – for inexperienced gamers. Geralt meets weaker opponents and receives less damage, while he himself deals more damage. Most battles can be won using only a sword.

Normal – for mid-advanced gamers. The opponents’ levels are normal. The gameplay is balanced. Most battles can be won using a sword and magical signs.

Hard – for very experienced gamers. Opponents deal high damage, and it’s harder to acquire items. Many battles require the use of a sword, magic and alchemy.

Dark - like Insane, but it is possible to load a saved game after Geralt dies. In addition, there is special chapter-specific set equipment for Geralt which potentially makes the game easier if they are gathered and equipped.

Insane – for unusually skilled gamers who expect an extremely high difficulty level. Opponents deal very high damage and no saved game can be loaded if Geralt dies. This difficulty level is harder than High.

My suggestion: Start with normal. Do 2nd or 3rd play-through on dark. Insane is stupid because you can't load if Geralt dies.

Major replay value by RPG standards because there are two completely different second acts. (paths)

For the first run, play on normal, follow up on Dark difficulty. Insane difficulty is not really worth it, stick to Dark if you want a challenge plus an interesting side-quest.

Ideally the game can be re-played up-to two times. I have finished it around eight times.
