Okay after playing a significant portion of the game here is what I think.

This game is NOT for people who like to overanalyze games (from graphics to gameplay to dialog) which unfortunately is a major chunk of today's gaming audience. The "gameplay" here is very easy and the game practically points you in the right direction at all times. None of the puzzles have any fail states or game overs so there's hardly any challenge. The only challenge comes from the stealth encounters with demons and unfortunately it's the worst part of the game and feels like unnecessary padding. But apart from those issues the game is very good. I'm finding myself getting really invested in the story and the characters. The world building here is incredible and the atmosphere hearkens back to some of the best horror games (Silent Hill, the older Resident Evils and Vampire: Bloodlines).

The writing may feel a bit cliched but works well in the context of the game. It's elevated by the voice acting which is generally pretty good. It's all still in B-movie territory though so don't expect Oscar level acting and dialog. Even the levels have a 'been there done that feel' since they're your typical horror movie/game settings, however like everything else it's all done rather well. I think the closest comparison to this game is the David Cage games (especially Heavy Rain). Most of the game plays out like an interactive movie but there's a lot more freedom here. You can explore every nook and cranny of the large levels and the streets of Salem and take on side quests and hunt for the (massive number of) collectibles. If you like collectible hunting you'll like how it's done here. Getting all of them is a challenge in itself. And the small stories and lore they unlock is worth going through the trouble as they're quite interesting to listen to/read.

So apart from the stealth encounters and the on-rails investigation, which becomes less of an issue the deeper you get into the game, there's hardly anything to complain about. If you love atmospheric horror and a good creepy story you should definitely check this game out. There's hardly anything else out there like it. Just keep your inner game critic in check and enjoy it for what it is.

I was just about to start Dark Souls II, but thanks for bumping this up Ty. I think I'll try this out. Seems like the perfect game set-up for a rainy-day. How long is it?

My 100% run took 13 hours. Less than half of that if you don't bother with the collectibles (but you should). Most of them unlock these vignettes that are interesting enough to make it worth it.

This was a decent game. Not perfect but it didn't deserve the poor reception it got. Especially from reviewers who bend over backwards to praise Telltale games.

Finished. Not bad at all and I really enjoyed the story, it's a bit cliched but overall holds your interest thanks to the presentation and the atmosphere. My impressions after playing about 50% of the game are pretty much applicable to the entire game. BTW it took me 8 hours with plenty of exploration and I got almost all the collectibles. If you aren't going for the collectibles and side stuff I believe it can be finished in 5-6 hours.

Murdered: Soul Suspect studio closes

Murdered: Soul Suspect and Dark Void developer Airtight Games has closed just weeks after launching its latest game to a lukewarm reception.

As you can see from our Murdered: Soul Suspect review round-up, the game didn’t fare all that well with critics.

GeekWire reports that AirTight has now closed the doors of its Redmond studio after ten years in the business.

The site adds that it visited the AirTight office this week to find all of its equipment being sold off at a discount along with a sign confirming that the company is closing. Inside, the team found empty desks, computing equipment and several E3 awards.

TBH it was one of my top games I've played this year...

Sucks that how "critics" review the games doesn't really apply to the common gamer. For Instance I hated Bioshock Infinite with it's crappy combat mechanics and every critic in the world just gave it a 10/10 for no reason (except totalbiscuit.. should have seen his video before buying it)

Completed the game yesterday afternoon with 100% completion. Though I enjoyed it, I feel it had way more potential had the developers focused on creating a better gameplay style. It had a good story and a perfect atmospheric set-up, but the gameplay was extremely boring. All you had to do was start an investigation, inspect the clues, try to piece them together and conclude the investigation. I don't understand why they even bothered with those demon executions, it just seemed so pointless. Salem, as a town, was pretty much dead and there was virtually nothing to explore. Some of the collectibles managed to give a good background on the town, bell killer and Ronan's personal life, that's about it.

I see how this game draws a lot of comparisons to Heavy Rain. Though, I would say it leans more on the L.A. Noire side, though not half as good. The concept of having a ghost version of yourself walk around was quite intriguing, but there is only so much you can do with it. You can posses people and only end up reading their thoughts, which are repetitive. The plot related characters and the storyline were the only thing which kept me hooked. I liked the way they concluded the story as well, it was a nice wrap up. So over-all, I feel it was a decent game with weak gameplay elements. Worth a shot though.
