★ Kani ★
Apart from the ones already mentioned here, I will add these 1. Use it as a download machine With Dropbox and utorrent you can totally automate the download process. You just need to add a .torrent file to Dropbox and utorrent will do the rest automatically. 2. Use it for security If you have a unused Webcam lying around just buy a long USB cable and you can install the Webcam outside to safeguard your car or door etc. 3. Use it as a secondary display. 4. Use it to watch tv Buy any cheap external tv tuner card and you are good to go. 5. Stream music or videos 6. Dedicated Skype device or you can even share cpu cycles with projects like SETI. kunallkw
Turn it into a squid server for caching browsing data Helps if you are on a limited plan And rest options are good too
kunallkw
^^ Most probably, I'll go with ubuntu .... but whats the way to access data stored on linux server over android/ipad/other laptops on a local network ? For ex: I've airserver to stream video to my ipad from windows PC (not sure if there's a smilar linux app).... It's called samba you can set it up in a breeze also try to go for a lightweight distro if this is not your main machine -- something like Mint it's a flavor of Ubuntu but very lightweight. Or DLNA using UPNP if its only media share that you seek
Shantz
You can easily achieve 1, 2 and 4 simultaneously by installing any popular linux distro. Ubuntu is fine.
