Something happened pretty recently that made my hair stand on end.

In an earlier post I explained about some of the stuff that happened to me in Mumbai before I moved to Goa. This in a way seems connected somehow.

I've been in Goa now for a little over 3 years now life has been pretty swell. Daughter is growing up well and wife is happy to be away from the crowds and hustle bustle. Work is good and we are progressing along just fine. We moved into a new flat 2 years ago and there hasn't been anything out of the ordinary. That is until a few weeks back.

Here's how our evenings normally go. I reach home from work somewhere about 7pm, help my daughter with her homework and play some weird imaginary games etc till about 8pm, when my wife wraps up her work (she works from home). We cook dinner and we're normally done eating by about 9:30pm. I take my daughter for her bath while my wife catches up on TV. After her bath, she says her goodnights. I normally read her a story in bed and in most cases she's out like a light by around 10:15pm. I sit for a bit and read before joining my wife in the sitting room to watch whatever is on till about 12am, before we retire to the verandah for a smoke. That done she goes to bed, while I switch on the PS4 and game till about 2am, after which I go to bed as well. So far so good.

A few weeks back I came home to see my wife visibly upset but all she said was "We need to talk". Holy balls! What did I do now was my immediate thought so I asked her what it was. She told me to wait till the kid was asleep and so I did, all the while racking my brains wondering what the heck I had done/forgotten to do. My daughter took longer than normal to fall asleep, my bets were on the sugar rush from those damn gulab jamuns she ate for desert. Truly a 5 year old hopped up on sugar is a sight to behold. Anyway I was done by around 11pm and walked back into the sitting room dreading the worst.

The moment my wife saw me she switched off the TV, the fan and the airconditioner. I looked at her, bewildered by her actions.

"What's going on?" I asked as I joined her on the sofa. She held her finger to her lips. I was even more confused.

"What?" I whispered.

"Just keep silent and listen" she whispered back.

And so I did, feeling foolish. A minute passed and I was beginning to get antsy. And then I heard it. I freaking heard it and my heart literally skipped a beat. Maybe ten beats, but I sh*t you not, to say I was scared would be an understatement. It was a sound of knocking coming from the ceiling. Not any kind of knocking. More like the sound of a marble hitting the floor in rapidly quickening beats. You know what I mean - TOK TOk Tok Tok toktoktoktrrrrrrrrrr. And then it repeated after some time. And then it come from the wall behind us maybe 2-3 times. I looked at my wife and we both knew exactly what the other was thinking.

A bit of backstory here, in my previous post I failed to highlight one thing that at the time seemed so stupid, but looking back now I'd say I should have paid more attention. In our flat in Mumbai, we had heard this sound, way before our daughter was born, and while we tried to reason the source of the sound it just seemed inconsequential and aside from commenting on it sometimes we kind of ignored it.

Back to the present: My wife then told me she had been hearing it all evening. I hadn't heard it before, probably I never noticed it till she drew my attention to it. Now its hard to miss. Which brought to my mind a conversation I had had with my daughter a few months back. She told me that there was a boy living in her bedroom near the tubelight and he wanted to play with her toys. Back then I dismissed it as the overactive imagination of a 4 year old. Now I'm not so sure. This needs more investigating....

To be honest I don’t believe in ghosts or the supernatural. But that does not mean I’m not afraid because meri be ghand fat jaata hai. I just think everything unknown can be eventually explained. That said the following is something I cannot wrap my head around.

My grandfather owned a flat in Mumbai since 1955. It’s where I spent my childhood and most of earliest memories are located in or around that flat. When my folks and I moved to Goa in 1991 they contemplated selling it off but decided to keep it in case one of the kids wanted to return to Mumbai later. That’s just what happened. In 1998, I moved back and took up residence in the old flat. Now keep in mind this flat was locked for almost 7 years with the odd cleanup happening maybe once every year. The furniture was as I remembered it and I spent the first few days going through my grandfather’s comic strip collection. Oh joy. I got engrossed with work and studies and only spent a few hours sleeping in the house. But those short hours were enough for me to notice some creepy stuff happening. It wasn’t outright scary but just something that nags you at the back of your mind. A lot of times when I used to return home from work or classes I would find things in the house had changed their place in some way. For example my He-man figurine would be on the facing to the right side, instead of forward, or a cup had toppled over or various other things. I ignored it because I was always in a hurry in those days. I dismissed it as something I probably did unconsciously. Either way I pushed this to the back of my mind and carried on for 3 more years. My sister then joined me and right away pointed out that something was not right. She said sometimes her keys would fall off the hook or there would be faint breathing sounds. Again, I was scared but I dismissed it as nothing more than an overactive imagination (I was sh*ting bricks inside though J ).

A lot of my friends would come over to watch movies except for one guy who kept making some excuse or the other. I finally cornered the guy one day and asked him why he didn’t want to hang out. His answer creeped me out. I can still remember getting goosebumps (I’m getting them right now). He said,”Bhai tumhare ghar me kuch gadbad hai. Accha nahin lagta hai ghar pe”. I asked him what he meant. He told me that he got a very uneasy feeling when he came to my house the first time. He said it was like he should not be there and he refused to talk anymore about it. We continued living there and the weirdness continued.

In 2006 I invited my girlfriend to live with me. My sister moved back to Goa in 2007. Please keep in mind that my girlfriend is a bigger darrpokh than me. After a few months she finally asked me if there was something scary about the house. I lied and said no and asked her why. This was so that I could confirm if what my sister and I had experienced was real. She said she felt like there was always someone in the house with us. I laughed it off (what f**king else could I do right?).

We got married in 2009. Our daughter was born in 2011. In 2012 it became downright creepy. Our daughter had just began to walk and could recognize objects and people. I was awake mostly till about 4 or 5 am playing games and more often than not I would hear her laughing. When I would rush to the bedroom she would be standing in her bed and pointing at the wall facing her bed. There was nothing on that wall at all. It was a blank wall. Light coming in from the window never reached that wall ever. I was worried and asked my wife about this. She told me that our daughter would sometimes walk into the bedroom all by herself even when the lights were off and stand near the wall either mumbling or just looking at it or laughing. It’s not something I was familiar with but being new parents we kind of wondered if this was just what kids do. After all its only when we grow a little older do we get afraid of the dark and all. What was nagging me was why that wall. I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out. We kept it to ourselves because if I wasn’t in that situation even I would not believe it.

So lets see. The only person who knew about the creepy stuff is my sister, my wife, my old friend who had moved to Dubai (I lost contact with him) and myself. Now here’s the really creepy part. One of my office friends had come over with his girlfriend. They stayed for dinner and left. A few days later he called me up and asked if he could come over. I agreed. What he told me left me speechless. He said his girlfriend told him that my house was home to an elderly couple who lived in the bedroom. She said that they are tied to the place in some way. They have lived there for a very long time. She said they are bound to one of the walls in the bedroom and that they play with my daughter and like her very much. She said they don’t mean any harm but not to approach them.

We continued living there till 2013 when we sold the flat and moved to Goa. Things have been fine so far. My daughter no longer points at any walls or talks to them. What happened in Mumbai still disturbs me because I don’t know if its something imagined or something real. Either way I still think there is an explanation. What bugs me is how a person I have never met could know about the f**king wall so accurately.

Feel free to interpret it all however you want.

Last but not least. Sorry for the long post.

Mice and lizards in a solid concrete slab is highly unlikely. I'll try and record the sound. Its really like a glass marble bouncing, and if it was only the ceiling I'd probably dismiss it as such. The wall makes it creepy for me.

Thats pretty scary stuff indeed.Holy Balls :O

True or not.

2 Things most important i think. One is to not let your daughter be alone even for 15 mins at Home. Thats the first thing i would do.Kids are easily susceptible to anything.

Second.Simply leave the house for some days and check if you still hear it.If Yes,then maybe its following :samui: Get some help.

Please tell me you are faking to make us sh*t bricks... :samui:

A couple of months ago, I woke up at around 2/3 am and heard some faint breathing beside me. I was so scared shitless that I didn't even turn to see anything, turned the other side and tried to re-sleep as soon as possible. I live in a 2-bedroom apartment alone, but it is in a crowded apartment complex.

So this happened in May this year;

I planned a surprise getaway for Wife on her birthday. Booked a room in a hotel to take wife and son out over the weekend.

We reached the hotel in the Afternoon and I decided to take a bath before the lunch arrived.

I was feeling tired and so after coming out of the bathroom, I instantly crashed into the bed, face down. And then it started.

A REALLY LOUD BANG shook me up. It was really loud, make your ears go "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" deaf loud. I opened my eyes and I was staring at the wall of the hotel room with my ears still ringing. I wanted to turn over and look for my wife and son, but I was paralysed. Now remember, my eyes were open, I was able to see, I was awake and aware where I was, but had lost control of my body.

And then ANOTHER BANG! Louder than the first one. I closed my eyes and when I opened it I was in my car. My wife drives (I dont), and I found myself in the passenger seat. My wife asked me, did you hear that? I looked at her and saw the building (looked like a multi storied parking) was on fire. I asked my wife to park the car away and I got out to check the fire.

I had my back towards the car when another Explosion took place. I squinted as a reaction and turned back, the car had turned into a fireball. Looking like a ball of tar.

I screamed when another BANG happened.

I opened my eyes and was again in the hotel room. I remember sweat on my face but I was still not able to move. I tried to scream, but my voice failed me. My ears were still ringing and so I was not able to hear anything. And so I decided to just give up. I closed my eyes and remember my wife waking me up when the lunch arrived.

Dude, that is downright scary. Is that noise fairly regular?

Also, is your daughter still sleeping in her room?

If yes, then try making her sleep in your room for a while.

daughter slept in her room for about 3 months early this year but she's back in our room since then. I'd say about 4-5 months now. Anyway she isn't scared or anything. I'm guessing this is because she is still too young to understand fear of the dark (iron maiden ftw :P)

Saari utar gai bhai.

On a more serious note, I know it's easier said than done but try changing apartments if it's rented. Also i don't know how feasible is this but try getting your parents to stay with you. The more people the better.
