Help with a new graphics card

In any case with arrival of haswell ....ivy bridge and sandy bridge will get cheaper too,so thats a plus.

Not by a lot, if anything nVidia and Intel have one thing in common, a name that affords them to keep the price up even after their next generation appears. I don't see the prices for Ivy-Bridge and Sandy-Bridge being affected by a great price depression.

No, if you plan up-to 2016, you will need something much more substantial. An HD xxxx for pc is not enough for future , just wait for

wait for HDx(+1)xxx to release

Fixed :P

never changed it. pc guy said it's fine more so because it's 660w and even a good 450w smps would be fine, and since my pc guy is technically a computer engineer that i just happened to know i'm taking his word for it. been using the card for a day now and loving the performance. idle temp at 34 and max at 70 that too with crysis 1 maxed out with 8x aa...lower temp with newer games

Okay here's a downvote for the PSU. I used to have a CM 650W PSU as well. It got fried recently and I don't even have high-end components (Q6600/5850). Replaced it with a Corsair GS 700...

So yeah the brand/make really matters, not just the wattage.

I consider the Core 2Quad's and the HD5850 pretty high end for their respective generation(s) and because of older fabrication nodes both draw a lot more power than equal performance components from current generation PC components.

Lucky you are, that no components got fried along with the same.

I know this sounds paranoid but a good SMPS is much better than having the faster graphic card or the snappiest processor, in my books.

i know, but even in my last pc had a cooler master psu and that had no problems. it's still running well today and it's more than five years old. and the gpu was the exact same watts as the psu not even lower like in my current pc. so yeah i've never had any problems with cm.

hatless, you are risking your PC. Get a good PSU before something goes kaput. My CM Extreme 600w couldn't even handle a 9500GT and Intel PIV. Fried one RAM slot with it. Worked fine for 6-7 months before going bust.
