dranjithk
I'm planning to get an external USB hard disk (1TB and USB 3.0) My budget is 4.5 to 5K. Please suggest some good drives! PS: I had a WD 500 gig drive which failed days after the warranty expired (1 year). So, a drive that has a warranty of at least 2 years will be good. Kazekage Gaara
Get a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB USB 3.0 external drive. It comes with official 3 years warranty and comes in various colors Also, check out this review... http://reviews.cnet.com/external-hard-drives/seagate-backup-plus-1tb/4505-3190_7-35331152-2.html It fairs better in competition with various other external USB 3.0 drives Am quoting one of the lines in the review... When used with USB 3.0, the drive scored 91MBps for writing and 110MBps for reading -- among the top three of USB 3.0-based external drives I've reviewed. Am getting this HDD today at Lamington Road
dranjithk
Thanks, will take a look at that one. what is the cost in Lamington Road? One of my friend is living near Grant Road. If the price is considerably less, I could ask him to get it from there..

Kazekage Gaara
Hi, Just came back. It's 1 a.m. here I got the HDD The final price I got was Rs. 4950 with vat paid bill and I just registered it on Seagate website and I got warranty till June 6th, 2016 I could've bargained a bit but after roaming around 15 to 20 shops, only ONE shop was offering me a sexy new Silver/White Seagate Backup Plus 1TB HDD so I got it from them Rest were quoting 5k and that too only black color was available I'll post some pics tomorrow Take care and good night Edit: By the way, a Seagate 1TB USB 3.0 Expansion HDD (external HDD but different model) was available for Rs. 4650 and a WD Elements 1TB USB 3.0 HDD was available for Rs. 4400, but I had my eyes firm on the Backup Plus model and the Silver/White color so I went with it The Silver/White model is pretty rare and 99% of the time you won't find it anywhere

Dude, I don't think you're talking about 2.5" USB-powered ones. The prices you have mentioned are 3.5 inchers and have a bulky power adapter to power them. The 3TB that you got at 8k is the 3.5" model and WON'T be USB powered. The 1TB Seagate Backup Plus I got is one of the slimmest and fastest 2.5" external HDDs out there in the market with blazing fast USB 3.0 speeds Smileys, smileys everywhere. Yeah, I love expressing myself with smilies

dranjithk
I checked out in a local store here about the prices. He said it costs 5100 bucks and when I told him it seems a bit expensive, guess what he said? He gave me this whole Thai Flood BS as if I come from Uganda. I was tempted to show him the golden finger, but I resisted my temptation and walked out politely
