Endings are affected by this number. Quote from ign Your Effective Military Strength rating. This is your single-player Total Military Strength rating multiplied by a percentage (Readiness Rating) from multiplayer, the iOS game Mass Effect Infiltrator and the iOs application Mass Effect 3 Datapad. The default percentage is 50%; thus, you can play multiplayer/Mass Effect Infiltrator/Datapad to up your Effective Military Strength rating to over 4000 EMS to get the "best" endings. Multiplayer is the best way to improve the rating as it can give 3-4% every game which lasts 15-20min each. You unlock classes and gear randomly as you play. It was good when when i was playing it. Also note that the rating goes down with time if you continue playing single player so its best to get around 100% when you are close to finishing the game. There is a point of no return in the game, so I played a couple of rounds of multiplayer each day to keep the % up. As you may know Bioware released extended ending following the backlash and I found it to be better than original endings so I would recommend downloading it(its free) but it's 2 gigs. The difficulty range from Bronze, SIlver and Gold(think insanity). I only played Bronze cause silver and gold do become tough without a good team. If you wish to play i can join in as well.
