Crytek Dev To Nordic: 'We'd Be Happy To Take Darksiders Off Your Hands'

Former members of Vigil Games pass on advice for future Darksiders titles.

Former members of Vigil Games have posted on Nordic Games' forums to pass along advice for future Darksiders titles - including an offer to take the Darksiders IP off Nordic's hands.

The remaining THQ assets were sold off last night after the publisher went under, with Nordic Games landing the Darksiders IP.

This has seen two members of Crytek, who used to work at Darksiders studio Vigil Games, passing along advice on Nordic's forums.

"As one of the co-founders of Vigil and the lead level designer/principal designer on both games, all I can say is... make it adventurous," said Ryan Stefanelli.

"And do what we would've done: let people know what happens when those other three comets land on Earth! Four player co-op or bust! Good luck to you guys. You've adopted our baby."

"If you actually ever go forward with the Darksiders franchise, be sure to focus on the things that made DS and DS2 cool," added Ben Cureton, who was lead combat designer at Vigil.

"Things like... that feeling of adventure (that Ryan mentioned), the fast-paced combat, the sense of scale, quality voice acting, and don't forget that Strife and Fury need to be BADASS... whatever you do, don't forget to crank the BADASS meter up to 11. If you are ever in doubt of what to do... just add more skulls! Oh yeah... it has to be 4 player. It's a must!

"That being said, if you decide you don't want to continue making games for the series, let me know. We'd be more than happy to take the IP off your hands. In fact, you can even have all of the money that DS1 and DS2 continue to generate!"

Nordic Games also acquired the Red Faction, MX vs ATV, Titan Quest, Supreme Commander, Frontlines, Destroy All Humans, Full Spectrum Warrior and Marvel Super Hero Squad IP from THQ.

Most overrated series ever IMO. 1 was average and 2 was poor. And they are talking as if it was some masterpiece.

And lol at the point that they can have all the money that DS generates

I like that they are pretending that the Darksiders IP is something to be treasured and handled well. :giggle:

hey, Darksiders (1) had a meaty campaign with some cool puzzles, great voice acting, cool combat and nice storyline- that wasnt as overtly dumb as a cod or bayonetta (superb game otherwise) nor as 'dumb masked by pseudo genius' as a mgs.

never played a zelda so my loins do not burst in flames projecting righteous fury on account of any incidents of 'ripping off', so as to speak. Loved the game, its protagonist who for a refreshing change was not a man with altruistic mission having weight of entire humanity rest on his shoulders and had a simple and personal goal of clearing his name without being an emo jerk about it (looking at you kratos).

Felt sad that it did not get many takers. A very under appreciated gem.

Havent played the second game that had an unnatural fetish for purple.

If you had done that with Darksiders 2 itself maybe the IP would have been worth more to buyers. Instead you tried to milk and failed.

Aah, i see the if-I-mention-Zelda-people-will-think-I-know-what-I'm-talking-about crowd is here. :)

Its because it has puzzles, not CODified and UCified, has good story and great combat. This is something people do not want this gen. All they want is a sequel like TR. Give the players two guns to shoot, put some cinematics, include MP and you are ready to print dollars.

DS1 is a great game, IMHO. I'm not a big fan of slashing games, but this one got me hooked to it by its cool storyline. And the voice artistes did a great job too. I'm definitely buying DS2 and will buy games from this franchise if they decide to make any!

So ambar went from his personal opinion that "the series is overrated" to" it did not sell so nobody cares" argument. I love it when this happens

Those two aren't mutually exclusive. Darksiders fans like to pretend that it's some amazingly high quality IP with great games but the reality is that it's not and the market has spoken to that effect.
