Players will immerse themselves into a twisted and horrifying world, while actively experiencing a slew of emotions and deeper thought processes than most titles out on the current market. WhiteWolf
Unity Engine Gives CryEngine 3 A Run For Its Money, Raindrop Teaser Looks Spectacular http://www.dsogaming.com/news/unity-engine-gives-cryengine-3-a-run-for-its-money-raindrop-teaser-looks-spectacular/ Raindrop Studios released today a teaser trailer for its upcoming surreal, environment driven, first-person survival game, Raindrop. And let’s be honest here; this teaser looks really great, especially considering that it is coming from a small independent team. At first glance, we thought that Raindrop was using Crytek’s proprietary engine. Imagine our surprise then when we found out that the engine behind it was not CryEngine 3 but Unity 3D. Raindrop is still in early development and promises to include fully explorable levels, with intuitive and complex puzzles, backed by a horror themed story line. IshmaelIsBack
My god. That was just amazing for a freeware. Never knew Unity3D's assets could be this good ( 4.0 right ? ). Slender 2 was amazing but this just pushes it. Would be a great inspiration for upcoming developers now that we're in the age of indie revolution. I've got around 3 batches of friends who work on iOS / Android projects and will show this to them to make'em rage Now if that's actually a game and not a tech demo , there was a constant deja-vu of Silent Hill for me in general. From the filter to the level design , the normal world-to-nightmarish transition in real-time in the middle ( when the cam pans from the room to the outside ) , an abandoned park , an apartment nearby , so on and forth. Definitely looking forward to hearing more on this. Also , post 2010 what's with developers pimping out their project reveals with godrays being a given in them ? ( I call dibs on Gears of War 3 being one of the first )
ALPHA17
^^ @Snake, I think for commercial applications you have to buy licenses for the Unity Engine, $1500 for a professional license, additional costs for various plug-ins and feature sets. You can get a 30 Day trial with complete functionality as well. More on Unity, here. Still very cheap for this amount of prowess.
IshmaelIsBack
I just meant freeware in general public release man , obviously a studio would go for the pro with all the features , cross-plat. Some other examples would be UDK3 and Source.
