[Edge Preview] Fantasy combat adventure Lords Of The Fallen steps out of the shadow

Gop has no pretence when it comes to Lords’ narrative ambitions: this is not a game with an encyclopedic backstory like Skyrim. “I don’t want to cheat anybody,” he tells us. “This isn’t a game that revolves around story; it’s a gameplay-focused experience.” For all its grand fantasy, Lords Of The Fallen is primarily about a grizzled warrior taking on a series of progressively more violent demons, besting them through skill and cleaving them apart with axes, swords and daggers.

Even at this early stage, Gop’s team has achieved a feeling of weighty physical combat and movement. Harkyn trudges under the weight of heavy armour, visibly slowed by its bulk. Swings from larger weapons, such as hammers, aren’t just slow, but really feel like they’re testing the limits of his strength. Which isn’t to say Harkyn feels underpowered: Lords strikes a fine balance between the heft of its weaponry and its hero’s combat style, with successful strikes and well-timed button presses unlocking chains of smoothly animated attacks that deal extra damage to anything in their path.

Lords of the Fallen is basically a Zelda/Dark Souls/Darksiders mash-up. Yes, it looks as cool as it sounds.

Just saw the gameplay. Looks arcadey as hell. Gave Darksiders vibes more than anything. And the last boss was lame as f**k. Visuals were amazing though.

Ya boss fight is lame. combat looks good, hope its more tactical than hack n slash. Graphics are amazing.

This is still just the pre-alpha build. And I'm sure that boss battle was purposely short to showcase how they'll change tactics after some health is depleted, a very Zelda tactic I might add.

It wouldn't have been much fun seeing 15 minutes of a guy just dodging and attacking in the same pattern, they wanted to keep it short and sweet.

Now I want to see what kind of magic they have in the game. And does this have some kind of co-op mechanism?

I think its not similar, but a diff type fantasy action rpg. This one is bit hank and slash type with combos, while bound by flame is more rpgish. Also it wont be having nice graphics like this one.

That looks excellent! This year is producing my kind of rpgs :D

My fav genre as well, 3rd person action rpgs.
