Elessar
Yes, a satisfactory non cliche ending would have been quite difficult, if not impossible, simply because there have been so many stories told about post apocalyptic worlds. To come up with something new is an achievement in itself. But I personally like closure at the end of my stories. The endings that are satisfactory have become cliched, but only because they work and resonate with audiences. Sure they managed to surprise people with the ending, but they also lost some things along the way. I don't like ambiguity or unresolved story lines at the end. As for a sequel, sure it's possible, but from ND I would expect a complete story line in one game, and definitely not need additional games or (heaven forbid) DLC to resolve fully. I read somewhere that this ending was being really well appreciated by any parents who played the game, and I can understand that. Maybe they feel that to spare your child, you can sacrifice everything in the world, even your soul and your relationship with the person. But from my perspective currently, it's flawed. Nemo
am curious about your mention of dlc. I dont recall ND ever putting out a dlc related to single player, have they ? if not then a. it is admirable and b. will be fun to see if they do actually buck the trend here and cave in. Elessar
There's scheduled to be at least one single player DLC for this game (it's included in season pass). Current signs point to it being a side story (probably with one of the other excellent characters seen/mentioned in game), but who knows..

Heaven Angel
That Ending was just for fun, a one take act. Marlene and Joel were good singers
HarishProGamer
I think overall the way the Game ended is fine. Especially the way Naugty Dog choose to end it, They have left a room for sequel which i feel. Endless possibilities there. Role wise I feel Ellie nailed it, But Joel was also good. That one-on-one hunt was the highlight moment for me, Pretty tensed. A Genuine Game of the Generation Contender TBH.
Somebody
I finally finished the game yesterday, and am happy with the ending. Joel got too attached to Ellie, and couldn't let her be killed for the rest of humanity. When it came down to the most important decision, his personal happiness was more important to him than the rest of the world. He must've figured that they will find a cure somehow using some other source, but he just couldn't let go of Ellie. Nice. Aftrunner
Yeah that was pretty good. I thought they missed a trick by making Ellie play out pretty much as Joel for the most part. The opening with the Deer hunt was absolutely amazing. Especially since you dont know if Joel is alive or dead and if Ellie is just out trying to fend for herself. Then they just turn her into mini Joel by throwing horde mode followed by her killing like 50 guys. Its not even the willing suspension of disbelief that bothers me, its just that those parts could (and should) have been trimmed down so it didnt feel like you were Joel in a slightly different player skin. Ditto for the ending. The last few minutes are astonishingly good. Especially the part where you are running away with Ellie in your arms, a straight parallel to the opening where Joel is running away with his daughter. Only this time he is running from other humans (Last of us indeed). But the part before that where you fight like wave after wave of enemies is just..... ugh. Honestly this game would have been a lot better if it had used some editing. I think it took me 12+ hours to finish it. I feel it would have been a much better game clocking in at 7-8 hours. Too much filler and too many pointless encounters. Still an absolutely fantastic game though.
Sackboy
Some parts were really stretched out with no real story progression but the bold stance ND took with the ending was mind blowing. Other games give you the illusion of choice but here they forced Joel's choice upon you, even if you would have done something else, you are just controlling Joel not making his decisions. I still get chills every time I think about that ending. ND was bold enough to go through with it and it paid off.

This is literally 95% of the games ever made. 100% of the books and movies ever made.
Heaven Angel
I think ND may continue from the moment they became dear and Joel consolidated Ellie. They gave us the choice to go quite or burst on 'em on every level, which is good. The Ellie moments were enjoyable, it made me feel sad when she was lying in lab and the one who used to protect her used her as an animal, Joel did right thing but deceiving Ellie wasn't right. Well.. to be fair, they did kinda change it a little bit. You couldn't just sneak up to someone and strangle them or kill them quietly, so I was forced to plan my attack differently. Other than that, yeah, it was mostly the same. They gave us the choice to go quiet or burst on 'em on every level, which is good. I think they kinda only went half-way with this. You can play stealthy in most of the levels, but then you have a few levels where no matter what you do, there's no way (at least as far as I tried) you can do it without alerting the guards or killing a few people. These levels kinda frustrated me because of the inconsistency. The Ellie moments were enjoyable, it made me feel sad when she was lying in lab and the one who used to protect her used her as an animal Yeah.. I went around the room and killed each one of the doctors before I picked up Ellie too

Not really, when you think about it every game makes the ending agreeable with the players and in pursuit of that they even mess it up commonly. I think he is more in disagreement with your sentence implying that ND was bold to make you control Joel and not his decisions. Yeah, most games don't give you a choice of ending it the way you want. ALPHA17
Not really, when you think about it every game makes the ending agreeable with the players and in pursuit of that they even mess it up commonly. You need to play more games then. There was one called Spec Ops that did the same in a more brutal manner.
