Shadoken
Which was the last game & on what platform?! This looks like a total Street Fighter 4 rip off for the uninformed SNES,N64...and Arcade machines. It was made by Rare. Good that its a SF4 rip off , There arent many SF4 clones anyway. Making a clone of a good game > Making a sucky game...... Besides SF5 wont be here for a long time, Capcom takes like 8 years for a new numbered sequel. IshmaelIsBack
Hmm , season pass. I wonder how it could be implemented here when it's both day one F2P and retail. He said for " all the content we'll be releasing " , if the retail version doesn't get a discount or perhaps another season pass only for future DLC minus characters , curious on how they're gonna justify the retail purchase or if there actually is one as they claim. Can't see a pre-order anywhere Obviously there will be a workaround but they better explain all this at EVO.

Aftrunner
Ouch! I kinda feel bad for the DH and the Madcatz peeps, its not really their fault MS sh*t the bed. From what I have read they have been really trying hard to be inclusive towards the community.

Right
Is it confirmed that your arcade sticks will be incompatible with new consoles? Btw I am intrigued, will definitely try KI, i can safely assume that this being F2P a lot of people will be getting it and even the casuals like me. And i totally love the gfx in this, that glacious gameplay looks eyecandy.

I think that madcatz said that their's won't with the next gen. I really hope that all the other manufactures put out a statement fast. NitroNeo
Being F2P will it have a limited roster ??
WhiteWolf
It's not F2P..... Killer Instinct free-to-play was a misconception During the GameSpot E3 2013 stage event a few of the game developers from Double Helix Games were on stage to discuss their newly announced title Killer Instinct. In particular a few rather important notes were made, the first thing mentioned was that there was a small misconception with the game being free-to-play. While the game is a launch title for the Xbox One, fans will be able to purchase the full game on it's release. There will also be a demo which comes with Jago as playable character where you can play all of the game's modes including online mutliplayer. If you decided after playing the demo that you liked the game, you can selectively purchase packages which feature various characters. Shadoken
Anyway here is my impression from a brief 15 minutes or so with the game at EVO 2013. The build just had 3 characters , and as far as Fighting games are concerned . The characters MAKE the game , so playing just 3 characters is very small to judge. so take this with a grain of "salt". The game was supposedly a pre-alpha build. First of all I hope what I played was running on a damn Xbox One coz I sure as hell didn't see one , the stuff was connected to a black "thing" inside a translucent box which I think is a high powered PC (looked too big to be an xbox one) . But lets assume this game is gonna look as good or better when it finally comes out. Graphics Yes this game looks fking awesome, the trailers and videos don't do any justice. You need to see how buttery smooth that gorgeous 60FPS game looks. From the trailers it looks like a game that can be done on PS360 , but when you see it up close the environment, character detail is just brilliant and this is definitely a next gen title. Best looking launch title for XBone IMO. The art-style is a bit similar to SF4 , the characters dont follow the same design though. They look completely different , no big eyes and whatnot. The stages look absolutely brilliant and amazingly detailed , there is always something going on in similar to Injustice , although you cant interact with the stage like Injustice. I felt the only thing that was overdone a bit were the special effects. Yes MS we get it , you want to show off some awesome particle/physics/lighting effects, but it is to the point where its forced on every thing. Almost every move has some effect , the EX moves have a shadow effect like in the old Street Fighter Alpha games. So a EX move with a fire or ice move is just filled with "stuff" everywhere. Lets just tone it down a little. So why is this a bad thing? All fighters have effects that play when you block or get hit called Hit or Block sparks , this helps you to easily identify whether or not you opponent blocked you attack or not. These effects become a bit harder to see with all the particles and lighting that's going on , that it does negatively affect the gameplay. Looking back at the health bar isnt really much of an option since that reduces your reaction time and an annoyance to keep switching focus from the fight to other hud elements. The animations in this game are also very well done , each move flows into another one. It doesn't have that weird feel like MK9 has , its similar to Japanese fighters like SF or Tekken. Gameplay So many people keep saying its like SF4 , but I think this is more to do with the art-style and animations . Apart from Jago being your Standard Ryu character the others felt nothing like SF. The base gameplay feels like SF3 (but hey thats almost every 2D fighter out there) . Its like saying every shooter feels like CS. There is no Focus Attack,Focus Cancels, Armor breakers and what not . This isnt a crazy fast paced game like Marvel, Guilty gear ..either . You have you standard controls for movement, dashes, jumping. Hold back for block (thank god and fuk you MK block button). And 6 button attack layout. This game is very offense oriented unlike SF4 (where most special move can be punished when blocked). This game encourages you do just get in your opponents space maul him as much as you can. You build your meter like crazy , just blocking a fireball gave the enemy so much meter to use. So you definitely don't want to just sit there and block stuff all day. You can chain a bunch of normal attacks into each other (probably what gives some people that mashy feel) , and then into specials for huuuge damage. These combos will also cause some damage on block. I couldn't really figure out everything due to my limited play ( added to the fact I need to beat the opponent to stay on the machine ). The commentator in game seems super hype , especially that ULTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAA COMBOOOOOOOOOOOO. Now on to some in-depth technical aspects of the game .... The way combo breakers work seemed very intuitive and much better than MK . If your opponent is doing a combo you need to break that combo by predicting exactly which attack he is going to do. For example Pressing the Heavy Punch + Heavy Kick button together will break a Heavy attack . Now if you guess wrong and the opponent did some other type of attack , you go into lock out and theres this big "!" mark near your character and you cant use breaker for a while. The disadvantage? now your enemy doesn't have to mixups low and medium attacks in the combo and he can go all out with those heavy damage attacks. So they key is to predict and play. There is also a Counter breaker system , If your predict your opponent is going to use combo breaker at a particular point you can use the counter breaker to "bluff" and your enemy whiffs the combo breaker and goes into lock out mode while you can continue your combo. The penalty? If you do a counter breaker and your enemy does not use the combo breaker , you are open to any attack and can get hit. Now as I mentioned earlier there is going to be a lot of pressure even if you are blocking , they have added in a feature called Shadow Counter . which works like Street Fighters Alpha Counter system. Another very interesting mechanic is Shadow Breaker , as I mentioned earlier EX moves are moves that you do with your meter. Now these moves cannot be broken with just a regular combo breaker , you need to consecutively break each move of the EX move to start Shadow breaker (Think about Third strike Daigo parry). The last feature I saw in the build but coudnt actually use it properly , were those green bars you saw near your combo meter. Now I dont have exact details about this , but I believe once you get all 4 green bars (you get more as you do your combo) it changes the damage and properties of your final combo ender. Out of the 3 characters , Jago was the typical Ryu character . Easy to pick up for people coming from street fighter , He has your standard Fireball, an upper cut and a dash kick. His jump in,crossups were similar too. Glacius was super awesome to play his long range normal attacks make for more defensive play , but he also has the damage to maul in for offensive play. And is able to get an offense going if he hits you with his long range normals. Each character also has a unique trait move , this differs from character to character and the more you do it you build your instinct gauge. Once that is maxed your character portrait glows and you can activate this instinct move? I'll call it that for now. Its something totally different for every character , like Jago goes into his Tiger stance mode where he regains health and moves much faster. Am guessing they will be some crazy stuff for the other characters , I couldnt really play around with this one a lot. Overall the game does seem to be lacking in number of moves but given how early in development this game is in they should be putting in plenty more. ------------- So my overall opinion on this game. It seems like a great fighter so far , the fact that a pre-alpha build played so good makes me hype for the final version. I honestly dont know how they are going to add in so much around the time this game releases. But I am guessing around 11-13 characters. Surprised a bunch of noname devs were able to pull this off. The gameplay feels solid , no clunky animations or mechanics like previous KI or even some MK games. The devs seem to be taking a lot of care and looking into a lot of fan feedback. I hope they stay on this track and dont rush the game. Id rather take a solid game with less characters than a rushed game. I cant judge the balance right now , but they need to take care otherwise this will just end up as a mash fest.
