i hav a LG TV

this thing is also there in older HDTVs which do not support 720p

the thing is with most games if u hav a TV that does not support 720p but supports 1080i, ps3 won't play it in 1080i instead it will try to play it in 480p or 576p(SD) which is when u hav these region probs. this is not due to ps3 but the game

Dude...AFAIK, there is NOTHING wrong with the game. Its your TV. Hell, my 15-year-old 21" Onida Audioport can handle both NTSC and PAL input signals.

THIS SAME THING HAPPENS IN A PS2 ALSO

I have a PAL PS2 and when I play an NTSC game on it, the OUTPUT SIGNAL IS NTSC, and I know that because my TV tells me that and displays the proper output signal. When I tell my TV to force switch to PAL, the screen goes BLACK.

Its really SHITTY on part of LG and other TV makers to remove that kind of feature from an television. Those dickheads just don't expect us to buy out of region stuff :O

dammit my Samsung sdtv doesnt have component input. however it has all the color systems PAL, NTSC and SECAM. but there is a problem, it doesnt play PAL DVD's on my NTSC U/C PS2 console and gives the error of "TV system does not match". does anyone know abt this? and i guess the same will happen with PS3 on my SDTV wid a game disc which has a different region coding. damn :cry5:

well i got my component cable, sure the quality is bettesr with other games on the SDTV, text is sharper and all, but GTA still dosent work. i have a philips TV, just 2 years old, 25", and its got both NTSC and PAl, but the damn multi format works only in the basic TV mode only, not in AV of Component mode. so, you either need to get a NTSC GTA or HDTV. Damn!!!

so heres the story, here i was very happy that i bought a ps3 and also managed to get my hands on GTA on the day it was released. except it wouldnt play. after a long search heres what i found. my player is US NTSC, but my game is PAL and my TV is SDTV.

and as one of the websites i found states that this is not a problem with only GTA 4, but many others. the text off the other site will explain this much better :

2 of the games/demos downloaded from PSN EU is not working on NTSC console hooked to SDTV. The games are Tekken and GTHD. However these titles work great on HDTV setup. I assumed that other demos/titles on PSN EU store are multicoded with PAL and NTSC and HD. In SDTV mode, the console will force-output its native console signal (NTSC), but in HDTV mode, the NTSC/PAL restriction is not an issue anymore. As we know that some PSN contents are affected with this limitation, I wonder if this problem also affect disc-based titles? I know that Sony already stated PS3 games are region-free, but are they region-free for HDTV only or including SDTV as well?

UPDATE:

*Certain disc-based PS3 games are affected as well*

------------------------------

These are what I believe happened for PS3 (BD games & PSN contents, not movie DVDs & PS1 & PS2 games):

The contents are either coded in:

1) NTSC-SD and HD

2) PAL-SD and HD

3) NTSC-SD and PAL-SD and HD

*some contents are NTSC-less/PAL-less but also in SD, and this is not a concern

Case a:

NTSC console + HDTV + Multicoded contents (NTSC+PAL+HD coded)

The console will try to output in HD mode to HDTV = titles worked

Case b:

NTSC console + SDTV + Multicoded contents (same as above)

The console will output NTSC-SD content only = titles worked

Case c:

NTSC console + SDTV + PAL-coded contents (PAL-SD and HD)

The console will refuse to play the PAL-SD content ["This game is not supported. (80028F10)"] or ["You cannot play this game at the current video output setting. (80028F10)"] on new firmware.

#All of the above are purely based on my observation/conjecture, and I might be wrong. Please correct if you feel there is anything wrong

--------------------------------

So anyone here can confirm which EU/PAL PS3 disc-based games worked with NTSC consoles in SDTV setup?

This might save someone that import consoles and play locally-released titles from buying a non-working disc title.

Gamestores here do not accept opened games for return. I hope this post can collate and compile list of working games on SDTV.
